Our Rosemont office is centrally located within the Chicago metropolitan area and serves as the hub for our engineering services operations across the region. Our Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Department focuses on municipal, IDOT, tollway and county roadway/streetscape lighting projects, as well as site and parking lot lighting, ITS, local event power, standby generators, potable water pump stations, stormwater pump stations, sewage lift stations, electric vehicle chargers and more.
This role allows you to independently apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to moderately complex projects. What You’ll Do
- Build and implement steady state and extended period simulations from scratch functional computer-based models.
- Evaluate existing system infrastructure and controls associated with water distribution systems and sanitary sewer collection systems.
- Gather and apply data and calibration data to support model development.
- Analyze and present modeling results to guide design decisions.
- Document all design progress through writings, drawings, sketches, calculations, and QA/QC.
- Evaluate site conditions, using topographic survey, and geotechnical field data collection.
- Coordinate with utility companies for new service connections.
- Perform required calculations and prepare design plans, specifications and cost estimates for the accurate and complete design of project features at the direction of their manager.
- Assist in the preparation of permitting documentation.
- Utilizes value engineering, technical input, and contributions from others throughout the design process.
- Undertakes research related to new methods or materials for use in projects.
- Assist in managing sub-consultants engaged in design projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- May act as liaison with client, contractors, or others directly involved with the project, assisting with required coordination and problem solving between parties and site activities.
- Assists in controlling project costs by managing the budget, invoicing, and reporting of projects, for both internal and client needs.
- Participate in networking events to support business development, talent outreach, and foster new relationships.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- At least 5 years of relevant experience
- PE license preferred, or actively working toward licensure
- Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software and CAD tools – experience with MicroStation and Geopak, or similar tools like AutoCAD Civil 3D or OpenRoads Designer
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and multi-tasks
- Familiarity with local agencies including Illinois municipalities, IDOT, and regulatory permitting agencies
