Job Description
The Christian County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is accepting applications for a full-time or part-time Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. We welcome applications from experienced attorneys, newly licensed attorneys, and law students preparing to take the Missouri Bar Examination. The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will regularly appear in court for arraignments, motion hearings, bench trials, and jury trials. Responsibilities include reviewing cases, conducting legal research, drafting motions and pleadings, negotiating plea arrangements, preparing cases for trial, working closely with law enforcement, and advocating on behalf of the citizens of Christian County.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and in good standing with the Missouri Bar or eligible to sit for the next Missouri Bar Examination. Employment as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney is contingent upon obtaining Missouri licensure.
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in criminal prosecution, criminal defense, judicial clerkships, or litigation.
- Internship or Rule 13 experience with a prosecutor attorney's office, public defender's office, court, or private law firm.
- Experience with PROSECUTOR by Karpel or another electronic case management system is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency with technology.
The Christian County Prosecuting Attorney's Office operates in a fully electronic, paperless environment. Successful candidates should be comfortable working with digital files and electronic case management systems. Must also be able to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screenings, and participate in random drug testing.
