Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Business and Finance Manager to provide financial leadership and oversight for a dynamic church environment. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both strategic analysis and hands-on financial operations in a collaborative, values-driven setting.
This position partners closely with the Chief Operating Officer and business office team to ensure strong financial stewardship, accurate reporting, and effective internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Maintain integrity of the general ledger and financial systems
- Review monthly financial statements and analyze results
- Monitor cash flow and provide insights to leadership
- Oversee contributions, deposits, and reconciliations
Month-End Close (Review & Oversight)
- Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by staff
- Ensure timely and accurate close processes
Payroll Execution
- Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll
- Review payroll inputs and ensure compliance
- Manage payroll-related billing for affiliated entities
Audit & Compliance
- Lead audit coordination and prepare required schedules
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and standards
- Review and file semi-annual sales tax returns
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Monitor budget vs. actual performance
- Support forecasting and financial planning efforts
Foundation & Restricted Funds
- Oversee accounting and reporting for foundation activity
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports
Risk & Insurance
- Manage insurance processes and claims
- Support risk management and internal controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3 years of progressive accounting experience (fund accounting preferred)
- Strong general ledger and month-end close experience
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft 365 skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Experience with ACS or Realm is a plus
- Experience in a church or nonprofit setting preferred
Schedule & Work Environment
- 28 hours per week (flexible within weekday business hours)
- Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities
