What are the responsibilities and job description for the Language Specialist II - Choctaw Language position at Choctaw Nation?
Pay $23.35 | Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM
Job Summary: Help provide language resources for Community Language classes, help translate different documents from the Choctaw to English and from English to the Choctaw language and teach Choctaw language courses to employees, students and the public. You will report to the Language Director.
Primary Tasks:
1. Translate the Choctaw Language to English and translate English to Choctaw.
2. Substitute teach Choctaw Language classes for employees, community classes and public schools.
3. Plan and coordinate learning activities.
4. Proofread and create documents in the Choctaw Language as needed by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
5. Work with staff at the School of Choctaw Language on a variety of language initiatives.
6. Learn to speak Choctaw fluently.
7. Become tribally certified through the School of Choctaw Language.
8. Serve as community outreach liaison, which consists of assisting and/or leading community language classes.
9. Teach language classes to Choctaw Nation departments.
10. Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Choctaw Language.
Requirements:
- Associate degree or equivalent Choctaw Language experience.
- Novice level speaker in the Choctaw Language.
- The desire to teach Choctaw and to develop lesson plans.
- Two (2) years of high school or community language class instruction.
- Must be a Choctaw Tribal Member.
- Former Graduate or Current Associate of the Choctaw Language Apprenticeship Program.
