The Director of Community Service is an administrative year faculty member primarily responsible for leading and administering the School’s community service program, including oversight of the diploma requirement, student programming, external partnerships, and community engagement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
As Director of Community Service:
· Oversee and administer the School’s community service program, ensuring alignment of the program with Choate’s mission and values.
· Every five years, evaluate program effectiveness through comprehensive data review in collaboration with the Director of Institutional Research.
· Oversight of the Community Service Canvas page to ensure a streamlined hub for all information and sign-up opportunities.
· Review and approve of all service reflections.
· Review and approve upperform requests to “bank” hours from 3rd and/or 4th form year service hours.
· Implement and monitor the community service diploma requirement for all students, collaborating with other colleagues as needed. Collaboration likely includes:
o the Registrar for data accuracy and reporting out to advisers;
o ITS for technical assistance;
o the Director of Global Engagement regarding international student service.
· Plan, organize, and execute the annual School-wide Community Service Day, assisted by the Community Service Advisory Committee.
· Supervise community service-related student clubs and organizations in collaboration with the Student Activities office.
· Coordinate and lead the after-school Community Service Seminar during the academic year.
· Collaborate with the Parent and Community Relations Manager to build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with external partners at the local and regional levels.
· Coordinate relief efforts in response to community or global crises.
· Manage the Community Service budget.
· Oversee administration of the Community Service E. Mulford-Sonne grant.
· Assist in crafting and implementing policies related to community service.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Equity and Inclusion, Dean of Faculty, Head of Student and Academic Life, or Head of School.
As administrative faculty member:
· Teach no more than one course per term.
· Advise students.
· Supervise students in residential life as assigned.
· Engage in ongoing professional development.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
· Attend weekly 1:1 meeting with the Dean of Equity and Inclusion.
· Attend bi-weekly Student Resource Group meetings.
· Attend weekly Equity & Inclusion team meetings.
· Coordinate student award-winners related to service (John Kirby Simon ’79 Community Service Award; Service-Above-Self Wallingford Rotary Award; etc..).
· Support faculty and student service initiatives (i.e. athletic team/advising group service opportunities; service taking place on domestic and international trips in collaboration with the Director of Global Engagement).
· Serve as liaison with Town of Wallingford service organizations.
· Support events and programming related to service, civic engagement, and equity and inclusion.
