DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties described below are indicative of what the Parks Maintenance Technician might be asked to perform. This job description is to incorporate any county ordinances for the position of Parks Maintenance Technician. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive as job duties and responsibilities are park specific to Pine Point, Morris Erickson, Round Lake, and Otter Lake along with all tower sites and county boat Landings. This is not an exhaustive list of job responsibilities and therefore other duties may be assigned:
Administrative Functions:
- Does a variety of on-site work as directed, including both hand work and operation and use of heavy equipment associated with the development, maintenance, and repair of Park infrastructure, Tower sites, , boat landings, and game habitat structures, etc.
- Perform major maintenance and repairs to structures and facilities in the County parks as well as development of new facilities, including construction of smaller wood frame buildings, boat landings, pavilions, beaches and small concrete flat work projects. Assists park caretakers in the opening and closing of the parks and minor maintenance activities to include painting, placement of signs, picnic tables, swimming buoys, etc., and their removal.
- Perform minor repairs, service work and diagnose equipment repair needs on Forest and Parks Department equipment and machinery, i.e.: chain saws, hand tools, tractor, dump truck, skid steer, dozer, boom mower, back-hoe, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobile, boat, lawn tractors, trailers, aerators, etc.
- Assists with projects at the Government Center Campus as assigned.
- Construct and install signs and steel gates. Complete repairs on existing ones for use in the County Parks, Cut and supply firewood to the parks and deliver other supplies to parks as needed.
- Maintain the Forest and Parks shop area at Cornell, and its contents therein.
- Act as a working foreman over seasonal and temporary personnel when available.
- Provide enforcement of County Park ordinances as legally allowed?
- Work on the construction of fences as necessary between County and private land.
- Completes troubleshooting and maintenance tasks on electrical and plumbing distribution systems, irrigation systems, pumps, water treatment systems, bathrooms and septic systems.
- Safely operate all tools and equipment, and must satisfactorily complete all required safety training.
Lead Worker Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Ability to take control of situations, dictating subordinate activities in a responsible manner.
- Ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures.
- Ability to provide information for performance evaluations and make recommendations regarding unsatisfactory employees.
- Ability to assign work, add or delete; plan work, establish priorities.
Community Relations Functions:
- Meet with the park users and provide pertinent information as requested.
- Provide timely and friendly customer service to park patrons and members of the public.
Customers:
- All elected officials and County employees
- All citizens that have business with and / or visit any of the County facilities that we manage
- User Groups, WI-DNR and / or any other agencies or officials that have a need or question
Team Members:
- Employees of the F&P Division
- Architects, engineers and contractors (professional services)
- Volunteers
- F&P Committee & County Board
- Employee members of the Department of Administration
- Numerous other County, City and state offices and / or departments (Zoning, LC&FM, Sheriff's Dept. CFPD, CFFD, WI-DNR)
- Multiple User Groups and Organizations ( Hunters Education, NRA, Otter Lake Booster Club, Stanley School System, Lake Holcombe Improvement Ass., Xcel Energy, Stanley Sportsman Club, etc.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Four (4) years construction, forestry, or small engine maintenance work required.
- Associates Degree in the construction field, forestry, or small engine maintenance technology desired.
- Minimum of two (2) years equipment operation (skid steer, back hoe, dump truck, loader, etc.…)
- A valid Class A CDL license within 120 days of employment required.
- Position may require working on weekends and holidays.
- A cell phone is required.
Pre-employment and Post- Offer Testing
- Successfully pass a post-employment-offer DOT drug screen, physical exam and agility screening.
- Failure to pass these will result in the employment offer being revoked.
Salary : $26 - $28
