Qualifications Required:
1. Washington State Teacher’s Certificate with endorsements in English Language Arts  or K-8

2. Satisfactory evaluations


Qualifications Preferred:
1. Reading endorsement or equivalent coursework.

2. History endorsement or equivalent coursework.
3. Successful middle school teaching experience documented by evaluations and references.
4. Willingness to comply with requirement to teach curriculum as implemented at the school site.
5. Evidence of success working with parents, students and staff members.
6. Evidence of success in working as a member of an instructional team to develop a cohesive and collaborative delivery of instruction.
7. Experience or training in:
    • Cooperative Learning
    • Willing to participate in Professional Learning Communities
    • Use of technology integrated with instruction
    • Alternative assessment strategies based on rubrics or other standards
    • Teaching using integrated curriculum and themes
    • GLAD Training for second language learners.
8. Successful experience or willingness to include students with special needs into the regular classroom.
9. Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual learners.
10. Evidence of successful alignment of the curriculum to meet state standards.
11. Evidence of successful classroom management and establishment of positive student/teacher relationships.
12. Punctual and consistent attendance.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Meet and instruct the students in the location at the times designated.
2. Participate in Professional Learning Communities to help facilitate prescriptive learning for all students.

3. Use Study Sync curriculum for ELA curriculum.
4. Diagnose individual reading weaknesses and design specific learning activities to remediate them.
5. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided.
6. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of such preparation upon request from a supervisor.
7. Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
8. Teach students to set and maintain high standards of behavior – develop and publish a classroom plan.
9. Maintain records as required by law, district policy and administrative guidelines.
10. Uphold and enforce school rules and administrative regulations.
11. Attend and participate fully in faculty and team meetings.
12. Teach curriculum as implemented by the school using developmentally appropriate practices, hands-on projects, and cooperative group activities.
13. Assess individual student progress toward learning objectives with frequency and regularity using a variety of methods.
14. Use technology as an instructional tool. Teach students to use technology as a learning resource.
15. Participate fully in building staff development. Create and follow a personal professional growth plan.
16. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues concerning the academic and behavioral progress of all students.
17. Establish and maintain collegial professional relationships with others.

18. Willingness to be trained and use the Kids at Hope framework, formative assessment, learning intentions, and differentiation

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

 

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F . The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.

 

Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.


Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
