Required Qualifications:

1. Valid Washington State teacher's certificate with Endorsement in Special Education 

3. Satisfactory evaluations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree

2. Previous experience working in a multicultural setting

3. Experience and/or training with computer technology and ability to assist students with computer operations

4. Effectively communicates and develops relationship with students, teachers, administrators, parents and public.

5. Able to work with interruptions while balancing daily responsibilities.

6. Ability to de-escalate students when necessary.

7. Evidence of ability to be a self-starter and proactive.

8. Able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

9. Willing to become first-aid certified if required.

10. Willing to become CPI trained.

11. Punctual and consistent attendance.

 

Job Responsibilities:

The Teacher in this position will:

1. Provide instruction to students with behavioral disorders.

2. Prepare instructional materials for the middle school level.

3. Participate in staff in-service training, meetings, activities and PBIS building culture and behavior model.

4. Maintain records as necessary for efficient procedures and evaluation.

5. Maintain professionalism by being confidential with all school-related information.

6. Assist in supervision and control of students in order to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate in and around the building.

7. Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior.

8. Use trauma informed practices.

9. Strive to be student trauma (ACES) informed.

10. Use the both push-in model and pull-out model when necessary.

11. Create schedules for students middle school aged students to be in Tier ll classroom and provide necessary support when students are in gen. ed. classrooms.

12. Work well with teachers who will have the Tier ll students in their classroom.

13. Provide training and support for paraeducators to ensure students are learning academics while teaching behavioral skills.

14. Observe students in the classroom setting to look for triggers, opportunities to self-regulate, etc.

15. Willing to do home visits.

16. Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness, civility and human sensitivity.

17. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.

18. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.

19. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

 

Job Description:

1. Prepare lessons and provide instruction using direct instruction materials and other appropriate intervention techniques for middle level course work.

2. Provide an effective program of instruction in accordance with curriculum and consistent with physical limitations of the location provided and needs and capabilities of individual or student groups involved.

3. Provide effective strategies for behavior disordered students.

4. Create a safe environment for staff and students.

5. Maintain all records according to specified timelines and SPED program requirements including IEP's.

6. Regularly attend district level Tier ll meetings.

7. Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings as scheduled.

8. Assist in the selection of supplemental materials and equipment.

9. Supervise paraeducators assigned to work with both in the Tier ll classroom as well as in the gen. ed classrooms.

10. Establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with staff members.

11. Encourage parent involvement, participate in parent/teacher conferences, and create and maintain good relationships with parents.

12. Assist in all applicable assessment sessions throughout the school year.

13. Prepare progress reports.

14. Required academic skills to assist students (i.e. knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading and social studies).

15. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.

16. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

17. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by building principal and district level staff.

18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

 

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F when students arrive and when they leave. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.

 

Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.

 

Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
