Farmington Valley Academy Montessori is seeking a thoughtful, collaborative Primary Associate Teacher to join our Primary (3–6) classroom team. This role offers an opportunity to work closely with the Lead Guide while actively participating in classroom teaching and the daily life of the school.
Our associates are not passive assistants. They play an active role in guiding children, presenting lessons, and supporting the development of a warm, engaged classroom community.
This position is ideal for someone who has Montessori training and is looking to deepen their practice within a supportive school environment.
Role Overview
The Primary Associate Teacher works alongside the Lead Guide to support a mixed-age Montessori classroom serving children ages 3–6. The associate helps maintain a calm and purposeful learning environment while assisting children with materials, lessons, and daily routines.
Associates are encouraged to grow professionally within the school, and the role can provide a pathway toward future lead teaching opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Guide in maintaining a prepared Montessori classroom environment
- Present lessons and assist children with Montessori materials when appropriate
- Observe children and support their individual developmental pathways
- Help maintain a calm, respectful, and engaging classroom atmosphere
- Collaborate closely with colleagues and contribute to the broader school community
- Support children both indoors and outdoors throughout the school day
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will:
- Have Montessori training (AMI, AMS, or equivalent)
- Enjoy working with young children in a collaborative classroom environment
- Be flexible, open-minded, and responsive to children’s curiosity and interests
- Be able to work closely with colleagues as part of a strong teaching team
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in Montessori education and child development
- Be physically active and able to participate fully in classroom and outdoor activities

Candidates relocating to the area may have the opportunity to join the school briefly during summer camp to become familiar with the community and classroom environment.
Compensation
- Salary range: approximately $38,000 – $41,000, depending on experience and training
