ABOUT US

The Children Youth and Family Collaborative (CYFC) is a nationally recognized organization serving over 2,500 foster youth and youth on probation at fifty sites throughout Southern California.

CYFC utilizes a holistic approach to improve the educational outcomes of foster youth and youth on probation. CYFC makes the connection between disadvantaged youth and a caring community through partnerships with Los Angeles colleges and universities, school districts, the Department of Probation, the Department of Children and Family Services, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, community groups, and faith-based organizations.

CYFC is currently seeking talented and inspiring individuals to join our team as Youth Education Specialist to work with foster youth in a school setting environment to ensure that students are inspired to learn and to reach for the best that they can be. Through the utilization of an award-winning program, Youth Education Specialists help bridge the gap for the students they serve in securing successful life paths.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group tutoring to elementary up to high school-aged foster youth
  • Collaborate with school staff, partner agencies and caregivers
  • Monitor and document student progress on educational objectives
  • Maintain required daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly CYFC documentation accurately
  • Maintain effective relationships with school staff via participation in meetings and professional development activities, as well as email and informal personal interactions to address and advocate for program participants
  • Monitor academic progress to ensure high school students are on track to graduate
  • Complete and submit tracking documents as required and within timelines
  • Complete entry of program and student data into online database system
  • Maintain appropriate files and ensure confidentiality of all student information
  • Consistently demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and professional behavior necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to our students and others
  • Collaborate with school staff (i.e., teachers, counselors, principals, etc.)

Minimum Experience and Education Required: Bachelor's Degree is required and we perform education checks.

Bachelor’s Degree in teaching or childhood development preferred. Candidates must have at least 1 year of experience in either tutoring or teaching students at the elementary, middle school and/or high school level. Candidates with a background in working with disadvantaged or at-risk youth are also encouraged to apply.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies Desired:

  • Ability to work 7 to 8-hour shift, Monday to Friday
  • Ability and ease in working in a fast-paced & fluid environment
  • Knowledge of K-12 subjects including Math, Language Arts and Science Common Core State Standards
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams of individuals in diverse settings with solution-oriented approach
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
  • Must be familiar with MS Office Suite including Word, Publisher, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly

  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $21.00 per hour
