Who We Are:

The Children's National Heart Institute's Outpatient interdisciplinary team extends services throughout a network of systems, providing a family centered focus throughout the continuum for clientele ranging in age from fetal life (pre-natal evaluation) through adulthood (adult congenital evaluation and treatment).

Children's National Heart Institute provides an extensive range of evaluation services for children and adults with congenital heart disease with programs that include fetal echocardiography, general cardiac evaluation, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac transplantation, syncope, electrophysiology, cardiac catheterization and interventions, preventive cardiology and adult congenital through our cardiology outpatient clinics.

What You'll Do:

The Sr. Echocardiography Technologist will perform a variety of technical and research responsibilities related to the Cardiology Echo Laboratory.


What You'll Bring:

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED (Required)

AND

  • Graduate of an approved school of Echocardiography (Required)

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years of prior cardiology experience, combination of training and experience (Preferred)
  • 1 year full time dedicated pediatric experience in an echo laboratory directed by a board-certified pediatric cardiologist (Required)

Certifications/Licensure Requirements:

  • Registered or registry eligible preferred by the Cardiovascular Technology Society (Required)
  • OR
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Cardiac/Medical Sonographers (Required)
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical/Cardiac Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Registered in Pediatrics, or Registered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer
  • Show respect and sensitivity
  • Demonstrate patience and self-control

Functional Abilities:

Echocardiogram procedures:

  • Independently perform echos on complex patients with congenital heart disease in inpatient and outpatient setting in a timely fashion; and, independently perform fetal echos in a timely fashion
  • Perform all required modalities for standard/research echos according to protocol.
  • Perform Holter monitor hook-ups and EKG's as needed
  • Utilize on-line and/or offline analysis system effectively
  • Perform analysis in a timely fashion
  • Strive for accuracy; check work consistently and keep up with heavy volume; strive to improve quality of echos.

Records/Billing:

  • All pertinent patient information is obtained for studies
  • All studies are created completely and accurately
  • All studies billed completely and in a timely fashion

Research Activities/Special Projects:

  • Volunteer to be responsible for research project
  • Assist physicians/fellows with research, willingly
  • Collect all pertinent information
  • Assist director of echocardiography with telemedicine
  • Assist director of echocardiography with 3D echo and contrast studies.

Equipment/Supplies:

  • Advise supervisor of any problems with equipment
  • Advise supervisor when supplies are low
  • Echo machine and probes are kept clean between patients
  • Help maintain neat and orderly workstation and echo lab

Regional Outpatient Centers:

  • Be reliable and on-time
  • Perform echos, EKG's and Holter monitors in a timely fashion
  • Be able to handle heavy volume effectively and efficiently
  • Work well with physicians, nurses and families
  • Keep clinics well stocked with supplies

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of on-call responsibilities and be reliable; work well with cardiologists
  • Instruct and guide junior level techs/fellows on approach to echoing patients with complex heart disease
  • Guide junior level techs/fellows on obtaining quality studies (utilization of transducers/controls)
  • Instruct junior level techs/fellows on use of echo machine, digital acquisition and EnConcert system.

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children's National believes an individual's base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children's National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual's combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications. This base salary range does not include our comprehensive benefits package or any additional compensation for which this position may be eligible.
