Job Overview

The Genomics Laboratory Scientist Associate is an integral part of the Children's Hospital Colorado Precision Diagnostics Laboratory team. Advancing our understanding of genomics and for providing accurate testing of genomic specimens for effective diagnoses and treatment of our patients. Works with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including laboratory scientists, data analysts, genetic counselors, variant analysts, software engineers, scientific directors, and physicians to provide expertise in testing and interpretation of genomics laboratory test results with primary responsibility for performing wet bench testing and data analysis.

Saturday - Monday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Supports the Whole Genome in house testing.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs complex molecular diagnostic techniques on clinical specimens and demonstrates competency with pipetting and various PCR techniques including but not limited NGS library preparation, hybrid capture and sequencing.
  • Understand and uses proper safety practices. Participates in procedure review and writing when requested.
  • Assists in maintaining accreditation standards, to include all check sheets and quality control information sheets and in in the ordering of laboratory supplies to maintain proper inventory.
  • Responsible for completing quality assurance activities such as maintenance, statistics, calibration verification and quality control review.
  • Performs nucleic acid extraction (DNA and/or RNA) on various specimen types.
  • Responsible for computer data entry, recall, accessioning, receiving, and labeling laboratory specimens and navigation within LIMS and other laboratory interface systems as needed.
  • Reports accurate results, evaluating, and interpreting results in accordance with acceptance criteria for clinical significance and validity, and for recognition of atypical/abnormal results requiring additional follow up.
  • Performs all laboratory functions according to standard operating procedures and by established guidelines/regulatory agencies, including participation in proficiency testing and familiarization with regulations and quality indicators.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance, cleaning, and minor adjustments and appropriate documentation on all laboratory equipment.
  • Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors and assigned duties in a timely manner.
  • Ensures quality control is acceptable and instrumentation is functioning and maintained within defined tolerance limits and documentation is completed.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and assay performance when results are not within tolerance limits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Genomics, Molecular Biology, or a related field proficiency with a variety of molecular biology techniques, including PCR and DNA/RNA extractions
  • Experience: N/A
  • Equivalency: Meeting one of the other requirements set by CLIA regulations for high complexity laboratory testing.

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $28.61 to $42.92
