Job Overview

The Director, Perioperative Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Perioperative Services department and all procedural-related functions. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: primary financial accountability for departmental operations; developing and managing budgets across all associated cost centers; recruiting, mentoring, and supervising departmental managers; providing strategic oversight and direction for perioperative clinical education across all sites, including alignment and standardization of education and competency processes; leading department involvement in hospital-wide initiatives and strategic planning efforts; overseeing the development and execution of departmental goals and strategic plans; and representing the department through active participation in community, regional, and/or national organizations related to perioperative services.

  • This position will support the work in our Perioperative Services departments at all CHCO locations to include: Anschutz (Aurora), North Campus (Broomfield), South Campus (Highlands Ranch) and Colorado Springs.

This position is eligible for relocation assistance, if relocating from 100 miles or greater.

Department Name: Perioperative Administration

Job Status: full time, 40 hours per week, eligible for benefits

Shift: Generally Monday through Friday normal business hours, on call responsibilities as needed

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Clinical Excellence: Leads the advancement and integration of critical care programs that exceed regional, national, and international standards. Ensures seamless, patient- and family-centered care in collaboration with service lines and hospital leadership.
  • Program & Service Innovation: Directs the planning, implementation, and evaluation of new patient care services. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative care delivery models.
  • Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Champions continuous improvement in quality and safety, applying evidence-based tools and benchmarking to uphold internal standards and meet external regulatory requirements.
  • Research & Innovation: Supports nursing and interdisciplinary research initiatives in partnership with the Director of Nursing Research and other research leaders. Promotes innovation in care through research engagement and dissemination.
  • Ensure consistent leadership presence by attending and actively participating in meetings and key functions across all assigned system locations to support alignment, communications, and operational effectiveness.
  • Strategic Planning: Partners with nursing and medical leadership to develop and execute a unified strategic plan aligned with organizational priorities and patient care goals.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Fosters open, effective communication with organizational leaders to support the integration of services and alignment across departments.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: Promotes and ensures the adoption of evidence-based medicine and nursing practices, including consistent application of clinical care standards and protocols.
  • Financial Management: Oversees departmental finances, including budget development, monitoring, and forecasting. Uses financial data to assess current programs and develop business plans for new services, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Goal Alignment: Collaborates with the CNE and nursing leadership councils to establish and support organizational objectives. Maintains high visibility in departments and serves as a resource for frontline nursing leaders.
  • Leadership Development: Acts as a positive influence within the organization and profession. Mentors emerging leaders and supports professional growth across all levels of staff.
  • People & Performance Management: Builds a supportive, high-performing work environment that nurtures leadership potential, facilitates team success, and drives performance improvement.
  • Professional Development: Provides strategic direction for educational programs in partnership with nurse managers, medical directors, and professional development teams. Encourages lifelong learning through active participation in professional organizations and academic activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Nursing or a directly related health care field is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience in addition to a minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership experience.
  • Certification(s): Certification as a Nurse Executive or Nurse Executive, Advanced is required within two (2) years of hire is required.
  • Licensure(s): Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado at the time of hire is required.

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $134,579.79 to $224,299.64
