Kinship- Tutor Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:   Provides academic assistance to children who caregivers are currently enrolled in the Kinship program.  The tutor coordinator will plan and facilitate individual or collaborative tutoring sessions in a variety of academic coursework and grade levels.  Must have previous work experience as a tutor. Participates in organization’s performance and quality improvement efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.    Participates/attend mandatory tutoring trainings/meetings/supervision

2.    Contact caregivers within 2 days of receiving tutor referral to schedule initial assessment visit

3.    Plans and facilitates tutoring sessions utilizing individual or collaborative learning methodologies

4.    Develop short term academic goals for each student

5.    Create age appropriate lesson plans for each subject area

6.    Assist students and caregiver in the improvement of age appropriate study skills

7.    Models appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to students, caregivers and team members

8.    Completes monthly reports 

9.    Maintain consistent communication with caregivers, students, assigned team member and program manager

10.  Direct caregiver’s concerns to the appropriate team member

11.  Coordinates with other departments within Children’s Home Network as required

12.  Performs other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree with Teaching certificate is preferred. An Associates Degree and two (2) years experience as a tutor or related field. Can substitute Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching certificate.

 

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with no record of criminal
  • driving offense of license suspension.
  • Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required
  • insurance. Must be insurable under CHN’s current auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and
  • State criminal background check and sexual predator screening.

 

COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

 

Annual Training Requirements: The following training topics are required annually: Sexual

Harassment, Blood-born Pathogens, Workplace Accident Prevention and Reporting,

Confidentiality and Privacy Practices, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect

Mandated Reporter Statutes and Methods, Prevention of Violence in the Workplace, OSHA–

related training, Crisis Prevention, and Program Goals.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to establish effective

working relationships with families, coworkers, supervisors, and other individuals. 

  • Possess effective interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of agency’s organizational structure, standard operating procedures, and

policies.

  • Knowledge of child abuse or neglect reporting procedures and methods.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development inclusive of developmentally appropriate

strategies.

  • Knowledge of intervention and behavior management methods, strategies, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of quality documentation as required by agency standards, rules, and

regulations.

  • Ability to conduct assessments to develop family services, and to provide follow-up services.
  • Ability to work as a multi-disciplinary team member in a positive productive manner.

 

Supervision Received:

Weekly individual and team supervision during which time training is provided, individual

families concerns are addressed, and individual areas of professional growth are reviewed.

 

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Visual: ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, read printed materials, and make

observations of physical facilities.

  • Hearing: ability to understand and comprehend spoken dialogue in individual and group

settings.

  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively.
  • Reasonable accommodation will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a

disability.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Works within an office environment or in family’s home.
  • High level of emotional discussions, requiring self-awareness and understanding of

professional boundaries.
