BASIC FUNCTION:
Develop, implement, administer, and evaluate the California State Preschool Program (CSPP) and private-pay preschool program at Children’s Garden Preschool; oversee daily school operations, staff supervision, family services, licensing and regulatory compliance, and curriculum implementation; collaborate with teachers to ensure a positive, developmentally appropriate learning environment for all children, manage nonprofit operations including board coordination and compliance with nonprofit governance requirements; and perform related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
PROGRAM LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION
- Plan, develop, implement, administer, and evaluate Children’s Garden Preschool in alignment with State Preschool (CSPP) requirements and nonprofit organizational standards.
- Ensure that Children’s Garden Preschool complies with all state regulations, licensing requirements, and California Department of Education (CDE) mandates.
- Develop, monitor, and reconcile the Preschool budget; oversee purchasing and maintain adequate supplies and materials.
- Plan and coordinate in‑service training, professional development, and ongoing support for preschool personnel.
- Serve as Lead Teacher for the State Preschool program; plan, implement, observe, and evaluate curriculum and activities based on the California Early Learning Foundations and Frameworks; adapt curriculum to meet the needs of individual children and groups.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and Aids-- Preschool staff.
- Work toward continuous improvement of the Preschool program using early learning and care tools and assessments, including but not limited to the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), and related instruments.
FAMILY ENGAGEMENT & COMMUNITY FRELATIONS
- Engage families in the program through regular communication, annual parent surveys, twice‑annual family‑teacher conferences, family meetings, and enrichment activities.
- Make referrals to community services as needed and maintain strong relationships with local agencies and support networks.
- Participate in marketing and outreach efforts to recruit families for Children’s Garden Preschool.
- Manage enrollment, maintain family files, track attendance, and update data systems in a timely and accurate manner.
COMPLIANCE, REPORTING & RECORDKEEPING
- Maintain staff files as required by CDE and Community Care Licensing (CCL); complete all required reporting, including Unusual Incident Reports and mandated reporting obligations.
- Remain informed on current issues and best practices in early childhood development; attend conferences and seminars as needed and share knowledge with staff and families.
- Enlist, train, and supervise parent volunteers, ensuring all required paperwork and clearances are completed.
- Establish and maintain clear communication and cooperative working relationships with families, staff, and community partners; coordinate categorical services (special education, custodial, maintenance, etc.).
- Working with staff, monitor and ensure a safe, clean facility in accordance with Licensing regulations.
- Maintain an inclusive and culturally responsive environment for students, families, and staff.
NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE
- Support the nonprofit operations of Children’s Garden Preschool, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, bylaws, and legal requirements.
- Enlist, develop, and support a governing Board of Directors; assist with board recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing engagement.
- Prepare and present reports to the Board of Directors regarding program performance, enrollment, finances, compliance, and strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the Board on long‑range planning, policy development, and organizational sustainability.
- Assist with fundraising, grant writing, donor relations, and community outreach efforts that support the financial health of the nonprofit.
- Maintain accurate nonprofit records, including minutes, policies, and required state and federal filings, in coordination with the Board and administrative staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate Degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or 60 units (including 32 units of specific child development courses) required; Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or related field preferred;
- Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or ability to qualify for permit, required;
- Three (3) years of experience working in a publicly funded program, preferably in a California State Preschool Program preferred;
- Two (2) years of experience in a leadership position at a Preschool or Child Care Center preferred;
- Valid Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification;
- Immunizations for Measles and Pertussis, and annual flu shot or written declination of annual flu shot;
- Experience in program development, implementation and evaluation preferred;
- Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver’s License;
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance.
