Summary:

A certified parent educator implements the PAT model, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curricula in culturally sensitive ways, the parent educator partners, facilitates, and reflects with families.

Supervisory responsibilities:

Childcare staff for group sessions

Specific position duties and responsibilities:

  • Engage in recruitment activities (as applicable)
  • Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family
  • Develop, monitor, and review goals with each family
  • Plan, provide, and document personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being
  • Provide group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with one another
  • Engage in parent-child interaction activities, and increase knowledge of ways to support children's development
  • Complete at least initial and annual developmental screening and health review for each enrolled child
  • Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs
  • Help parents and children transition to other services as needed
  • Maintain and submit all required family and program documentation in a timely manner
  • Participate in at least two hours of reflective supervision monthly and at least two hours of staff meetings monthly
  • Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually
  • Participate in measuring outcomes and continuous quality improvement
  • Maintain and monitor the PAT affiliate budget

General agency duties and responsibilities:

  • Complete all required training 
  • Participates in agency outreach and fundraising events 
  • Demonstrates a willingness to assist in other agency programs as needed 
  • Acts as custodian and demonstrates responsible and ethical use of agency property and facilities 
  • Displays sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics 
  • Strive to embody the agency’s Code of Ethics while working toward the agency’s Mission 
  • Learns and demonstrates Agency Wide Competencies including the areas of consumer and community relationships, continuous individual and agency-wide improvement, vision and purpose, respect and teamwork and positive leadership 
  • Ability to secure the cooperation of program participants, to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships;
  • Ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, and reports
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or four-year degree in early childhood education, social work. health, psychology, or a related field is recommended
  • It is essential that parent educators have at least a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of previous supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
  • Supervised experience working with young children and/or parents is also preferred.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and possessing key characteristics (e.g., empathetic, conscientious, accepting, ethical)
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Strong knowledge of available community resources and organizations.
  • Ability to work independently, plan and work collaboratively with community partners.
  • Ability to be extremely flexible, work as part of a team, and possesses good decision making skills.
  • Computer skills. (Outlook,Word,Excel,OneDrive)

Other requirements:

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record 
  • Personal vehicle for use in conducting home visits in the event agency vehicles are not available 
  • Proof of current/valid car insurance 
  • Acceptable background reports 
  • Negative drug screen results 

Work environment:

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required 
  • Culture of card and wellness with work environment 
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions 
  • Potential exposure to blood borne and/or airborne pathogens

Pay: $40,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
