Position Summary: A Facilitator is a youth leader who teaches by example and creates a safe, engaging environment for middle school students. This role requires a genuine passion for working with youth, a commitment to positive youth development, and the ability to model behaviors that support growth. Facilitators plan and lead fun, structured activities while building meaningful relationships with participants. In some cases, they also collaborate and guide an Assistant to help manage daily group responsibilities. We do this by implementing the agency's mission, goals, and objectives. We aim to cultivate a strong foundation for success in all of our participants and the community through innovative and effective social-emotional, academic, family, and health and wellness services.

Essential Duties:

  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and care for up to 15 middle school participants in a group or club setting.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans in a timely manner; lead structured games, enrichment activities, and group discussions.
  • Teach by modelling skills, attitudes, and values aligned with the mission and goals of the program.
  • Provide academic support during Learning Zone, including individual and group tutoring in reading, writing, math, and study skills.
  • Lead and facilitate project-based learning activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and/or Education Coordinator to align lesson planning and implementation with program and agency goals.
  • Implement literacy-based curriculum provided by the agency with fidelity.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of special projects, events, or field trips, both during and outside of regular program hours.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, and team-building activities.
  • Support the overall operation of the program, including supervising participants during supper and transitions, maintaining classroom materials, and ensuring shared spaces such as classrooms, cafeteria, gym, and other common areas are clean, organized, and left as they were originally found or better.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with students and their families to foster a welcoming, community-centered environment.
  • Must be available from September through June for the after-school enrichment program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Actively pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with children in educational, recreational, or mentoring settings strongly preferred.

The incumbent is expected to work a schedule, whether in-person or hybrid, as determined by the department's needs to facilitate effective collaboration with the team. This flexibility is essential for maintaining seamless communication, fostering teamwork, and ensuring the smooth operation of the department's processes. The position's requirements are subject to periodic review and adjustment based on organizational needs and changes in work dynamics.
