What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parent Mentor position at Child Parent Institute?

- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.
- Parent Mentors must have experience as a parent or family member who has previously been involved in the Child Welfare system and successfully reunified with their children.
- The Parent Mentor’s own Child Welfare case must be closed for a minimum of two years, must be clean and sober, and maintain family stability.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
- Present professional appearance, attitude and behavior at all times.
- Positive attitude, sincerity, and a willingness to help others.
- Demonstrate good rapport and healthy boundaries with families and community partners.
- Clear written and positive communication skills.
- Diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory.
- Parent Mentors may be asked to work occasional evenings or weekends on a case-by-case basis.
- Willingness to accept feedback and supervision with a goal of professional growth.
- Parent Mentors must have the ability to get to court, meetings and appointments. Families served may live anywhere in Sonoma County.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
- Basic computer skills preferred: email, internet research, Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive, etc.
- Meet with, support and build relationships with families currently involved with Sonoma County Family, Youth and Children’s Services.
- Attend court appearances and meetings including Team Meetings, Team Decision Making Meetings, and 1-on-1 mentoring meetings, etc.
- Communicate via email/phone/in-person with parents, social workers and other appropriate parties in order to help parents navigate their child welfare cases.
- Assess the parent(s) strengths and determine case needs/areas of support.
- Connecting parents with community resources as needed.
- Document all contacts and interactions with the parents on a contact form. All recordkeeping must be accurate and timely.
- Attend required individual, group supervision and training as requested.
- Acknowledge positive behaviors and encourage and support parents in continuing success.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 25 lbs (supplies)
Prolonged sitting and working on a computer and telephone.
Driving to client homes using your own vehicle.
