What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder Apprentice position at Chief?
Entry-level professionals who are actively developing their skills in the welding trade. This role is part of a registered apprenticeship program, designed to provide hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced welders, lead personnel, and designated mentors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carries out responsibilities with safety and efficiency as a priority. Prioritizes the well-being of colleagues and actively contributes to the safety program by collaborating, sharing ideas, and voicing concerns. Adheres to training guidelines, policies, and procedures while maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Proactively identifies and addresses potential hazards.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of hand tools, including accurate use of tape measures.
- Ability to interpret fabrication drawings and other data sheets for final weld assembly.
- Basic welding skills including torch and grinding are preferred but will train.
- Adheres to all quality control procedures and standards to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Strives to maximize quantity of assigned work completed.
- Assist in setting up welding equipment and preparing materials for weld operations.
- Maintain qualifications in accordance with the company required America Welding Society (AWS) certifications.
- Once qualified, the operator will meet or exceed the minimum Ultrasonic Inspection (UT) pass ratio requirement within a selected time period.
- Demonstrates full knowledge of the capabilities and safe operation of assigned equipment, including familiarity with applicable company and code-specific welding standards and procedures.
- Capable of performing all operational processes, including material handling with forklifts and overhead cranes, provided the individual is 18 years of age or older.
- Properly complete all routine paperwork and computer data entry related to the job responsibilities.
- Works effectively with minimal supervision.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for creating a collaborative, safe and hazard free environment that is driven by employee involvement. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to leading departmental continuous improvement projects, supporting and executing all safety and health policies and programs, employee training and incident investigations.
