Reports to: Accounting Manager
Pay Range: $30.78 - $37.41 per hour
Status: Full Time Part Time Regular Temporary
FLSA: Exempt Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Accountant II is a mid-level role that handles key financial activities with minimal supervision, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and general accounting support. As part of a collaborative team, the Accountant II may rotate through functional areas such as AP, AR, grants, and general accounting based on team needs and may perform a limited number of the below tasks at one time. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records by preparing entries, processing transactions, and supporting audits and reporting. This position requires a solid foundation in accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines with minimal oversight.
Essential Job Functions:
- Process and review accounts payable transactions, including invoice coding, approval verification, and payment processing.
- Prepare and issue customer invoices and track accounts receivable activity.
- Record and reconcile cash receipts, EFTs, credit card transactions, and check deposits.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate vendor and customer records in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct
- or similar).
- Prepare and post journal entries related to month-end and year-end close.
- Assist with grant accounting, including maintaining organized files and supporting documentation.
- Support audits by preparing schedules, gathering backup, and responding to auditor requests.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and accounting standards (e.g., GAAP).
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to finance team meetings.
- Cross-train in multiple accounting functions and take on rotating duties as assigned.
- Complete annual 1099 processing and distribution to vendors and the IRS
- Review Financials with Department Heads and Officers monthly.
- Issue the Positive Pay file to The Commerce Bank of Washington after each check run.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Job Functions:
- Attend external training or webinars as approved for professional development.
- Provide occasional support to other departments for budgeting or reporting projects.
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring of entry-level accounting staff or interns.
- Participate in staff-wide or club events that may fall outside normal finance functions.
- Manage incoming mail by retrieving, logging, and distributing to relevant parties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- An associate degree in Accounting plus 2 additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s.
Experience:
- 2–4 years of professional accounting experience, with exposure to both AP and AR functions.
- Experience in nonprofit accounting or fund accounting is a plus.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Sage Intacct or similar.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
- Experience using cloud-based systems and document management tools.
Soft Skills:
- Clear written and verbal communication

Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or active progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations or grant funding
- Familiarity with GAAP compliance in a nonprofit context.
- Lived or professional experience working with Native or Indigenous communities
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to work at a desk for extended periods, with occasional movement around the office. The role involves frequent use of a PC, extensive typing, and constant communication with team members, including phone use. Attention to detail is essential for reading and writing documents in both hard and electronic formats. The physical demands include routine office tasks and equipment operation. Occasional travel may be required, depending on location.
