What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Sales and Marketing position at Chief of Staff KC?
Director of Sales & Marketing — Custom Manufacturing | North-East, KS- On-site
Our client is a well-established, engineering-driven contract manufacturer serving technical, highly regulated end markets — think products that protect and save lives across defense, medical, and safety-critical applications. With in-house product development and engineering capabilities and a strong reputation for quality, this company designs and builds custom technical products for demanding OEM customers.
They are seeking a Director of Sales & Marketing to join both the Senior Leadership and Executive Teams and help shape the company's short- and long-term growth strategy.
About the Role
This is a key leadership position responsible for the overall sales and marketing strategy — driving revenue and profit growth, strengthening pipeline management and forecasting, developing new and existing business, and building out a high-performing commercial organization (including internal sales talent and independent manufacturers' reps). This person will also lead the broader marketing function: website/SEO, content (blogs, case studies, video, podcasts), trade shows, branding, and customer-facing materials.
You'll work cross-functionally with manufacturing and engineering, becoming fluent enough in the company's technical capabilities to credibly lead the commercial side of the business. Travel is approximately 30% (customers, suppliers, trade shows, and facilities).
Team leadership includes market/division sales managers, a Business Development Manager, a Sales Operations & Analytics Manager, the Customer Relations team, and independent rep agencies — reporting directly to the President & CEO.

- 8 years of sales management experience, ideally in a fast-paced, engineering-oriented, B2B custom manufacturing environment
- A track record of leading, coaching, developing, and holding a sales team accountable
- Strong command of forecasting, pipeline management, KPIs, and commercial discipline
- Excellent relationship-building and cross-functional communication skills
- Mechanical/mathematical aptitude — comfort with technical drawings and basic statistical analysis
- Familiarity with (or strong willingness to learn) custom manufacturing processes, raw materials, plant throughput, and supply chain logistics
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Economics, or Industrial Engineering
- Willingness to travel ~30%

- Opportunity to build structure around forecasting, KPIs, and sales team development
- Competitive base salary depending on experience, plus performance-based variable compensation

- Work at the intersection of sales leadership and technical manufacturing
