Our Gateway West Shelter team in Albuquerque, NM is looking for our next Shelter Supervisor to dive in and make an impact with people experiencing homelessness. If you model trauma-informed care in all you do, we can't wait to hear from you!
SCHEDULE
We are filling rotating shifts. Weekends/holidays are needed to meet the needs of the shelter.
ABOUT GATEWAY WEST
Gateway West is Albuquerque’s largest shelter, serving an average of 600 people per night, with cold winter nights bringing in more than 700 people, offering a safe and welcoming environment to people experiencing homelessness. The center is open year-round, offering meals, a warm overnight bed, and secure under-bed storage. Shuttle service is provided daily. The team provides easy access to trauma-informed services such as case management, job searching, and other supportive services. The team's goal is to guide guests through a successful exit from the shelter to safe, stable housing and a plan for ongoing support.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?
You will work closely with the other supervisors and directors to manage the overall operations and staff of the shelter. You will provide in-person leadership, actively engaging and empowering your team, working side-by-side. During your shift, you'll oversee the daily operations of the shelter, ensuring a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for residents and your team. You'll focus on staff management and coaching, operations, client services, safety and cleanliness, crisis management, and compliance with shelter policies and regulations. You will be key in creating a welcoming atmosphere and promoting the well-being of individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Supervise shelter staff during shifts, providing guidance, support, and ensuring exceptional service for guests. Give input for staffing decisions and performance management with Director leadership.
- Manage guest interactions, de-escalate challenging situations, and uphold a fair discipline process to maintain a secure, equitable environment.
- Support the organization of guest belongings, storage solutions, common areas and shelter processes.
- Maintain accurate census data and reports, ensuring proper and timely communication with director as appropriate. (including Citywide Emergency Bed Tracker)
- Coordinate guest transportation. Some supervisors may drive 15 passenger van to pick-up shelter referrals and transport guests to community locations and shelter access points.

- You just get things done and put everything in place. You are ready to handle schedules, new hire training, operations, cleanliness, organization, safety of common areas, staff assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Minimum of 3-5 years in social services or shelter management
- Minimum 1-2 years in a supervisory role
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel locally as needed. Able to drive a 15-passenger vehicle if applicable.
