tability Support Worker plays a vital role in assisting individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or child abuse. They ensure that the Valencia Shelter remains a safe, secure, and supportive space for all residents. This position moves quickly and requires excellent judgment, independence, crisis response skills, and strong communication. The Stability Support Worker provides direct client support, crisis intervention, and daily oversight of shelter operations while encouraging client empowerment, independence, and overall well-being.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: NOTE: The Company may unilaterally change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Respond calmly and professionally to crisis situations.
  • Answer the 24-hour crisis line; provide appropriate support, referrals, and transport arrangements.
  • Notify emergency services when necessary.
  • Always maintain a secure environment in the shelter by ensuring that all clients fully understand the security measures in the facility and by providing ongoing oversight of security measures.
  • Perform client intakes, including orientation, safety planning, and immediate needs assessment.
  • Provide emotional, social, and practical support to residents.
  • Encourage client independence and support them in achieving personal goals by conducting weekly goal reviews
  • Maintain daily activity logs and client records using DAP notes.
  • Document medication and secure medications as per policy.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with all agency procedures and legal regulations.
  • Perform housekeeping duties: cleaning, laundry, dishwashing, and changing linens.
  • Support food preparation, inventory management, and meal planning with dietary needs in mind.
  • Identify and report maintenance and supply needs; assist with minor repairs.
  • Transport clients as needed.
  • Support client outings and engagement in community activities.
  • Work closely with shelter staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Attend staff meetings and required training sessions.
  • Support overall shelter operations and fulfill additional tasks as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Two years of prior experience working effectively in a crisis environment
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform effectively and calmly in crisis situations.
  • Ability to interact with residents in a caring manner while maintaining boundaries.
  • Must be team-focused and work well with co-workers and partner agency members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software and operating systems such as Windows and MacOS.
  • Must be able to complete all required NMCSAP/NMCADV/NMCSVANW/CVRC/CYFD/HUD Lead Base Paint training before assisting survivors
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, court officials, landlords, and other housing professionals.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training, supervisory sessions, and accept responsibility for aiding the development of positive team relationships as requested.
  • Track records of demonstrating qualities such as good judgment, responsibility, and an ability to relate effectively with clients and family members.

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation

  • Must have a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and a reliable vehicleff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in shelter, caregiving, or community support roles.
  • Knowledge of community resources and social service systems.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid, and personal care preferred.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and client-centered approaches.

  • Will have repetitive hand and arm motions and prolonged periods of sitting
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • This position requires frequent manual dexterity in combination with eye/hand coordination such as keyboarding and handling of equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate
  • Ability to be on a web camera/computer screen and remain on screen for extended periods for virtual meetings
  • Work is generally performed on site
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends and Holidays to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Some travel is required for the position.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
