The HR Policy & Audit Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and auditing human resources policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal standards. This role partners closely with HR leadership, Legal, Compliance, and Internal Audit to promote consistent, compliant, and effective HR governance across the organization.

The HR Policy & Audit Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and auditing human resources policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal standards. This role partners closely with HR leadership, Legal, Compliance, and Internal Audit to promote consistent, compliant, and effective HR governance across the organization.
Primary Duties And Essential Functions
- Draft, review, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure alignment with federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational standards
- Partner with HR stakeholders to ensure policies are practical, clear, and consistently applied
- Manage policy approvals, version control, documentation, and publication processes
- Support and conduct internal HR audits (e.g., personnel files, onboarding, classification, leave administration, payroll practices)
- Monitor compliance risks with employment laws such as FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, Title VII, and state-specific labor laws
- Assist Identifying compliance risks and control gaps; develop corrective action plans and track remediation efforts
- Support external audits, regulatory inquiries, and compliance reviews as needed
- Prepare audit reports, risk assessments, and compliance summaries for HR leadership and senior management
- Maintain audit documentation, evidence, and tracking logs in accordance with retention requirements
- Develop metrics and dashboards to monitor ongoing HR compliance and policy adherence
- Serve as a subject matter expert on HR policy interpretation and compliance questions
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, and Internal Audit teams on cross-functional initiatives
- Provide guidance and training to HR team members and people managers on policy and compliance requirements
- Stay current on changes in employment law, regulatory guidance, and HR compliance best practices
- Recommend process improvements to strengthen controls, consistency, and employee experience
- Support HR policy standardization and enterprise-wide governance initiatives
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Background:
- Education & Years of Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Compliance, Organizational Behavior, or a related field, with 3-4 years of experience in HR compliance, policy enforcement, or employee relations. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may meet the qualifications for this position.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state employment laws and compliance frameworks (e.g., OIG, SAM databases) for supported states/regions, with the ability to quickly learn and apply new regulations. Proficiency with compliance tools and regulatory reporting is preferred.
- Proficiency with PC and software systems, including Office 365, HRIS, and ADP Workforce (preferred). Sound judgment, commitment to compliance and confidentiality, superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and attention to detail are essential.
