The Office of Multilingual-Multicultural Education (OMME) exists to guide CPS in providing a high-quality education for all language learners that is attentive to a culturally and linguistically diverse community of students, families, and educators. OMME aims to achieve its mission through strategic planning, collaborative partnerships, professional development, and the production of tools and resources to improve instruction. The Office of Multilingual Multicultural Education (OMME) provides tools and resources to ensure that all multilingual learners receive a high-quality public education that prepares students for success.
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Office of Multilingual Multicultural Education and a CPS clinical social work field instructor, the intern will support an array of evaluative, direct, and collaborative services to enhance the educational outcomes of students enrolled in CPS. Interns will carry out their daily responsibilities across identified schools and/or the entire city, and will have the opportunity to provide services to students ages 3 through 21. All duties are performed in accordance with both federal and state statutes, Illinois State Board of Education procedures, and CPS policy.

Responsibilities
With the support and supervision of a clinical social work field instructor, duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Attend 100% of CPS and/or clinical training
- Utilize data-based decision-making to drive instruction
- Consult and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders
- Provide interventions to support coping strategies
- Provide mental health services to develop social and life skills
- Support practices to promote learning
- Support individual and school-based communities with evidence-based strategies for effective trauma response
- Engage in legal and ethical professional practices
- Support OMME projects as needed
With the support and supervision of a clinical social work field instructor, professional day-to-day duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Promoting EL/Bilingual practices to support learning and a positive climate
- Engaging in reading and assignments to effectively learn and use researched-based interventions
- Understand current school-wide positive behavioral support systems in CPS
- Make suggestions to the BHT team
- Providing mental and behavioral health interventions to students
- In conjunction with the supervisor, school admin and/or school based team, consult with parents and stakeholders.
- Adhere to consent policies; understand FERPA
- Conduct data collection and analyzing progress monitoring data
- Providing crisis response, with supervision.
- Providing in-service training to school staff members
- Conducting/assisting in comprehensive social assessment with individual students to determine their unique strengths and challenges (behavioral, emotional, academic, adaptive, personality)
- Consulting with families as needed to enhance home-school collaboration
Education Required
- Applicants must be enrolled in the first or second year of an accredited college or university. In order to be eligible for an internship within Chicago Public Schools, there must be a University Agreement in place between CPS and the prospective university.
