Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking an Operations Specialist to join the Polyethylene Operations Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up. This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will be a permanent position and member of the Operations team upon project completion.
The Operations Specialist is responsible for helping ensure that the Polyethylene Plant design results in safe, reliable daily operations and that the constructed equipment meets process safety, environmental, and process performance requirements. Additionally, the Operations Specialist will play a critical role in Operations team training, coaching, and mentoring. During Phase 4 the Operations Specialist will serve as Operational Assurance Coordinator, assisting with pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start up along with other Operational Readiness activities. Phase 5 responsibilities will be to help ensure that the equipment is commissioned properly resulting in a safe, reliable, and on-schedule start-up. Following start-up, the job functions will transition to a more traditional Operations Specialist role characterized by normal plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to CPChem Tenets of Operation, Life-Saving Rules, EHSS Procedures, PSM and OE Processes, and Environmental Permit compliance
- Identifies and addresses issues to ensure safe and compliant operations
- Communicates unit operating plans with the operating staff
- Communicates deviations to the operating and production plans
- Fosters learning culture by teaching operators, day staff, and support groups
- Provides support for development and execution of unit projects
- Assists in resolution of customer complaints and reduces substandard production
- Demonstrates safety leadership to influence improved safety behaviors
- Drives safety processes compliance (MOCs, JSAs, critical procedure audits, and procedures)
- Single-point contact within production unit for planned maintenance activities
- Manages equipment and unit outage maintenance list
- Performs maintenance prioritization and coordination responsibilities as defined in plant Operations-Maintenance Work Process
- Coaches operators on proper troubleshooting and documentation of equipment issues, including work notifications creation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of direct related experience or High School Diploma/GED with at least 7 years of direct related experience
- Knowledge and comprehension of facility processes and procedures
- Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment knowledge
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with OMWP, maintenance metrics, and maintenance strategies
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office and SAP
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in Polyethylene Reactor Loop Slurry technology or finishing with Coperion extrusion technology
- Experience working at the GTP site
- Previous job experience as a Supervisor or Operations Maintenance Coordinator
- Previous major capital project experience
- Previous HAZOP/LOPA experience
- Experience utilizing SmartProcedures and eSoms
- Familiar with CPChem safe work practices and site-specific procedures
