Introduction

Join CPChem as an I&E Technician located in Conroe, where you'll be an integral part of our Manufacturing & Projects team within the Maintenance division. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our industrial processes through expert handling of instrumentation, control systems, analyzers, and electrical equipment.

As a valued team member, you will contribute to sustaining operational excellence by ensuring all process analyzers and control systems function optimally around the clock. The role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities in a dynamic and highly technical industrial environment. You will collaborate cross-functionally to support ongoing projects and system upgrades while adhering strictly to federal, state, and local safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Analyzer Duties:

  • Perform 24/7 maintenance of process and environmental analyzers.
  • Maintain and calibrate hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide detectors in compliance with safety standards.
  • Document repairs, purchase parts, confirm time details, and write notifications efficiently using SAP software.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local procedures and regulations, contributing to procedure and policy development that enhances safety and productivity.
  • Assist specialists in analytical and control systems with project development and implementation initiatives.
  • Engage in Process Hazard Reviews and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs).
  • Provide critical 24-hour analytical support during operational upsets and outages.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as required.

Control Systems Duties

  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) on Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Lead maintenance and execution of Instrumented Protective Systems (IPS) under various operational conditions, including outages.
  • Collaborate closely with contractors during instrument control loop checkout for plant expansions and existing systems.
  • Troubleshoot and debug equipment, recommending and implementing modifications to ensure dependable, low-maintenance operation.
  • Perform software program modifications on systems such as DeltaV DCS, Modicon, and Triconex PLCs.
  • Repair electronic card modules encompassing both analog and digital components.
  • Recommend and assist in the integration of new control system equipment in line with process modifications.
  • Support Control Systems Specialists and Instrumentation/Electrical engineers in project design and implementation efforts.

Responsibilities Cont'd

Instrumentation Duties:

  • Repair, calibrate, and maintain various process instruments including flow, pressure, level, temperature, and differential pressure transmitters.
  • Tune and repair process controllers and manage pneumatic and digital valve controllers (DVC) actuated control valves.
  • Install, set up, and verify proper functioning of pressure, temperature, flow, and level switches and other monitoring devices.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on specific instrumentation such as dry additive feeders to ensure consistent performance.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot equipment failures and process conditions to recommend and implement improvements that enhance reliability.

Electrical Duties:

  • Observe rigorous compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies when removing and installing electrical equipment up to 138kV.
  • Install electrical equipment including conduit, wiring, supports, and associated devices.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair tasks effectively across various equipment types.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on motor starters, motors up to 8000 H.P., UPS systems/batteries, AC and DC variable speed drive controllers, and electrical motors.

This multifaceted role requires a dedicated team player with technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement in safety and operational standards.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, the candidate must meet the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in instrumentation within an industrial or heavy commercial setting, supported by:
    • Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology or
    • Certification or diploma from a recognized trade school.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic and calibration tools such as TREX devices, meters, and pumps.
  • Strong troubleshooting and installation skills for control valves and coriolis meters.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs including Triconex, Allen Bradley, and Modicon, alongside Distributed Control Systems like Honeywell, DeltaV, and Yokogawa.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Gas Chromatographs, Yokogawa Gas Sample Systems, and oxygen and hydrocarbon detection systems.
  • At least 5 years of medium to high voltage electrical experience within an industrial or heavy commercial setting, with one of the following credentials:
    • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology
    • Level II NETA certification or higher, or equivalent
    • Journeyman Electrician License
  • Capability to diagnose and locate circuit, component, and equipment faults accurately.
  • Experience in motor starter and switchgear troubleshooting for both AC and DC systems.
  • Knowledge of programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience rebuilding and servicing control valves to enhance operational precision.
  • Solid understanding of ladder logic programming and control systems operation.
  • A proven track record in successfully managing and completing significant control system programs and complex control schemes.
  • Familiarity with industrial process engineering principles and practical control applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of protective relays, including function, data acquisition, troubleshooting techniques, and root cause analysis for alarm systems.
