Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are currently seeking a Senior Residential Counselor to provide supervision and leadership in direct assistance, support/supportive counseling, and skills training to individuals with intellectual disabilities in an intermediate care facility (ICF). Our Senior Residential Counselors are dedicated and compassionate and work in group homes, supported living, in-home, homes of families, and other settings!
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Rehabilitative Counseling, or a related field; two years of experience in working with intellectual disabled individuals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Supervisory experience preferred. At least one year of In-Home experience and writing Residential Individualized Service Plans (ISP) preferred. Experience with electronic health records preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Working knowledge of the nature of intellectual disabilities and the role of residential support services. Ability to supervise consumers in a residential setting; to develop and implement individualized service plans; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to teach life skills to increase independence preferred; knowledge of person-centered practices with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities populations preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Duties
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To The Following:
- Develops, implements, and monitors implementation of individualized service plans for individuals with intellectual disabilities participating in a residential program;
- Provides oversight and support to individuals living in apartment settings to help increase their independence;
- Provides oversight and direction to Direct Support Professional (DSP) staff in a supported living program;
- Prepares and maintains casework documentation as required in the delivery of services (e.g. case histories, assessments, creating ISPs, treatment plans, progress notes, personal spending funds, facility inspections, etc.) using an electronic health record;
- Transports individuals to desired locations and ensures opportunities for community involvement and integration;
- Assists in ensuring the health and safety of the individuals served by administering medications, scheduling and accompanying them to medical appointments, etc.;
- Assists with scheduling staff and individual services;
- May conduct orientation of new staff and in-service training; and
- Performs other work as required.
