What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Recreation Specialist - Stonebridge Recreation Center position at Chesterfield County?
Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field; two years of progressively responsible experience in recreation or community service program planning for adults and youth; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of objectives and principles of public recreation program planning. Ability to plan, organize and perform a full range of recreation activities. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to operate a computer and related software. Must have the ability to interact with and manage a variety of people with diverse backgrounds and varying ages based on the community’s needs of interests. Ability to supervise staff. Must be willing to work outside normal work hours, when necessary, which may include evenings and weekends.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Essential Duties/Functions
- Plan, organizes, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreational programs for all ages, including a variety of sports, fitness, social, and educational programs and special events.
- Manages and communicates all onsite logistics for year-round recreation programs, special events, tournaments, camps, clinics etc.
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise recreation staff, contractual staff and volunteers. Provide leadership and support to ensure quality service delivery.
- Recruits and provides direction to contract instructors ensuring providers meet standards and certifications.
- Provide excellent customer service by resolving complaints and offering department information in a friendly manner.
- Interacts with people inside and outside the organization to exchange information, coordinate, instruct, guide and advise.
- Process programs, rentals, and special events for the department. Maintain accurate databases of participants, forms, programs, and payments.
- Assist in preparing and managing program budgets; monitor expenditures and revenues; generate reports on program performance and participation.
- Supervise staff and daily operations of recreation center, including opening and/or closing facility. Ensure cleanliness, report hazards, maintenance issues, and submit work orders.
- Develop promotional materials and collaborate to advertise programs, and events to promote public awareness of the Stonebridge Recreation Center to include flyers, news releases, schedules and brochures.
