Under limited supervision, performs a variety of routine library procedures. Follows general policies and directions of the Chesterfield County Library Board. Answers to the Library Director, Deputy Director, and Branch Manager.
Assists patrons with a variety of services including reference needs, performing circulation duties, registering new patrons, answering questions and inquiries by patrons, explaining library policy and procedures to patrons. Instructs patrons on use of library equipment (public computers, OPAC, microfilm reader) including use of all Microsoft products and internet technology, i.e., email, filing forms, resumes, job searches and research. Maintains and updates patron files in an accurate and timely manner. Assists patrons in finding reading materials to match reading interests. Performs a variety of related duties such as collecting fines and fees, balancing monies received, keeping materials in proper order; repairing materials with minor damage, answering the telephone, keeping necessary files, and performing general clerical duties related to operation of the branch. Re-shelves materials and maintains collection in good order and appearance. Responsible for opening/closing; securing facility and monitoring all equipment effectively and reporting necessary repairs.
Implements regular weekly and special children’s programs including reading programs, story hours and group tours. Performs a variety of general library services including instructing children in the proper use of library resources, assists parents and other adults who work with children in selecting the best literature available for appropriate age group. Maintains the children’s area in a clean, orderly, attractive condition; utilizes colorful decor and interesting arrangements and displays.
