Why Chesterfield County

Join Chesterfield’s award-winning eGovernment Services team, where we use technology, design and collaboration to improve how people experience public services and how county employees get work done.

We’re seeking a forward-thinking AI and Automation Solutions Administrator to help Chesterfield County identify and apply practical, responsible and impactful uses of artificial intelligence and intelligent automation. This position will work across Information Systems Technology (IST) teams and county departments to improve processes, modernize digital work and help turn emerging capabilities into secure, accessible and sustainable solutions.

The role combines analytical thinking, service design, technology enablement, cross-departmental partnership and support for organizational change.

  • Identify, evaluate and prioritize opportunities where AI and intelligent automation can improve work processes, reduce manual effort, enhance service quality and improve public experiences.
  • Partner with IST teams and county departments to define problems, desired outcomes, readiness factors, success measures and approaches for pilots or broader initiatives.
  • Analyze existing business processes and help design improved workflows using AI, automation, low-code platforms, integrations and modern digital-work tools.
  • Facilitate discovery sessions, develop solution concepts, create requirements and backlog items, and collaborate with technical teams to determine practical implementation approaches.
  • Support AI-enabled improvements involving digital services, forms, workflows, process intelligence and employee productivity.
  • Help build countywide readiness through demonstrations, workshops, office hours, guidance, communications and practical playbooks.
  • Provide guidance on responsible use, limitations, human review and the organizational changes associated with AI and automation.
  • Measure and communicate outcomes such as time saved, improved turnaround times, adoption patterns, service-quality gains and user-experience improvements.
  • Collaborate with eGovernment Services colleagues, IST leadership, cybersecurity, privacy, records management, service management, vendors and departmental stakeholders to ensure solutions are secure, accessible, governed and supportable.
  • Stay current with emerging AI and automation capabilities and assess their suitability for county use.
  • Perform other work as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business, public administration, communications, analytics or a related field; minimum of five years working experience, developing and deploying web-based solutions to include significant professional experience in AI enablement, intelligent automation, workflow automation, digital transformation, business systems analysis, low-code development or a similar technology-focused role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant professional experience in AI enablement, intelligent automation, workflow automation, digital transformation, business systems analysis, low-code development or a similar technology-focused role.
  • Experience working with business stakeholders to identify needs, shape practical solutions and support organizational change.
  • Applied knowledge of artificial intelligence, generative AI, intelligent automation, workflow tools and low-code or no-code platforms.
  • Understanding of process analysis, service design, workflow redesign and practical technology-adoption methods.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain emerging technologies clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to balance innovation with security, privacy, governance, accessibility, supportability and measurable value.
  • Ability to organize multiple initiatives and keep work aligned with organizational priorities and available capacity.
  • Ability to learn emerging capabilities quickly and evaluate whether they are appropriate for county use.
  • Public-sector or local government experience is preferred.

What Sets You Apart

  • You are curious about emerging technology but focused on solving real problems rather than adopting technology for its own sake.
  • You can move comfortably between business conversations, user needs and technical concepts.
  • You use sound judgment and can recognize when an AI or automation solution is appropriate — and when a simpler approach would work better.
  • You are comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative, cross-functional team.
  • You value accessibility, security, responsible technology use and sustainable service delivery.
  • You are passionate about public service and interested in improving how government serves the community.

Why This Role Matters

This position will help shape how Chesterfield County adopts and applies AI and intelligent automation across its operations and digital services. The work will help departments move from manual, fragmented processes toward more efficient, secure and user-centered ways of working. Although this is an individual-contributor position, it will have countywide influence through the opportunities identified, workflows improved, pilots supported and adoption practices established.

Career Development and Work Environment

  • This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
  • Enjoy a flexible hybrid work environment that balances in-office collaboration and remote productivity.

Additional Requirements

  • Twelve-month probationary period.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Must maintain personal mobile technology as a condition of employment.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check (including fingerprinting) and education/degree verification required.
  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.

PLEASE NOTE: Position open until filled (first review to begin September 14, 2026).

Previous applicants do not need to re-apply. Applications will remain under consideration until position is filled.
