Safety Officer
Job Summary
The ideal candidate for the Safety Officer position at CCSA will demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This individual will collaborate with school leadership, faculty, and staff to implement safety procedures, respond to security concerns, and promote a positive school climate. The Safety Officer plays a critical role in supporting the day-to-day safety and well-being of the school community.
Responsibilities and Qualities
- Maintain high visibility throughout the building and grounds while conducting regular inspections of entrances, exits, bathrooms, stairwells, hallways, and common areas.
- Assist with emergency situations, school safety drills, and the implementation of school safety procedures, including fire drills, lockdowns, and shelter-in-place protocols. Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, staff, and administrators.
- Make recommendations to school leadership regarding school safety and security improvements.
- Assist administrative staff with security concerns and investigations as needed.
- Collaborate closely with faculty, staff, the Climate Manager, and school leadership to support proactive behavior interventions and positive student outcomes.
- Perform daily bus duty and front desk coverage.
- Participate in professional growth opportunities and ongoing safety training.
- Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, reliability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while addressing student and staff safety concerns.
- Available to work 7:00am - 2:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in school safety, security, law enforcement, youth services, or a related field preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and computer proficiency.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and school-based student information systems.
- Ability to log, maintain, analyze, and interpret data accurately.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, including physically assisting, evacuating, or transporting students when necessary to ensure their safety.
- Satisfactory Act 34, Act 151, Act 168, and FBI clearances.
