What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Transmission Technician position at Chesrown Chevrolet Buick GMC?
Job description:
Chesrown Chevrolet GMC in Delaware, Ohio is hiring an Automotive Transmission Technician. $90,000 to $140,000 per year, based on experience and GM certifications.
Transmission and driveline is your lane. It is not the only thing you will touch, and that is on purpose. Between transmission jobs you will pick up driveline and general line work, which is the reason the hours are here every week instead of some weeks.
What you will actually do
- Diagnose transmission concerns on GM cars and trucks: shudder, slipping, harsh or delayed shifts, noise, no-move, and the ones that only happen when the customer is driving it
- Work the diagnostic ladder properly, from fluid and cooler line and thermal bypass valve through valve body and converter, before anything comes out of the truck
- Valve body, solenoid, torque converter, and clutch pack work
- Remove, replace, and install transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials
- TCM programming and relearn procedures
- Give the advisor a clear, honest write-up so the customer hears the same story you found
- Document warranty repair orders correctly the first time, including the cost comparison when the call is repair versus replace
- Road test and verify shift quality before the vehicle goes back to the customer
We do both here. Units get repaired in house when that is the right call and replaced when it is not, and your diagnosis is what drives the decision rather than a default to swapping it.
What we are looking for
Real transmission experience, whether that came from a dealership or a transmission shop. You know the 6L, 8L, and 10L family. You know what a shudder complaint usually turns out to be, and you know when it is not that.
GM certifications are a plus. If you do not have all of them yet, do not screen yourself out. We pay for GM training and certification, and your pay moves as you certify.
- You diagnose before you disassemble
- Comfortable with a hydraulic schematic and a wiring diagram
- Able to work a repair order start to finish without somebody standing over you
- Allison and Duramax experience is a plus. This is a truck market and the HD work is steady
- Your own hand tools. We will move your box
- Valid driver license and a good driving record
- High school diploma or equivalent
Pay and benefits
- $90,000 to $140,000 per year, based on experience and GM certifications
- Paid GM training and certification, with your pay moving as you certify
- Health coverage
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off
- Employee vehicle purchase program and discounted service
- We will move your toolbox
The shop
You get your own bay and your own lift. You are not sharing a stall or hunting for a lift somebody else is parked on. The shop is air conditioned.
We are four stores now, Delaware plus three in Sidney. We are family owned and the owners are in the building, so when something in the shop needs fixed you are not waiting on a corporate office three states away.
Schedule
Five day work week. Closed Sundays.
