Job SummaryThe Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting operations of Chesapeake Homes while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. - Lead and coordinate the monthly financial close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow reporting, profitability reporting, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and maintain complete, accurate supporting documentation for all balance sheet accounts.
- Oversee job costing, work-in-progress reporting, cost allocations, profitability analysis, and financial reporting across multiple divisions.
- Support the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, variance analysis, and strategic financial modeling.
- Supervise the Accounts Payable function, review accounting transactions, and maintain strong internal controls and compliance with company policies.
- Assist with annual audits, tax reporting, 1099 preparation, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Develop, coach, and mentor Staff Accountants and the Accounts Payable Specialist through regular one-on-one meetings, performance coaching, and professional development.
- Manage departmental workflow, prioritize deadlines, and ensure timely completion of all accounting responsibilities.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, streamline workflows, enhance reporting capabilities, and leverage automation throughout the accounting function.
- Partner closely with Purchasing, Sales, Production, Operations, and executive leadership to improve financial visibility and support informed business decisions.
- Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Controller and Vice President of Finance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience within residential homebuilding, construction, land development, or real estate development strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Experience managing month-end close processes and producing accurate financial statements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with ERP/accounting software; experience with homebuilding software is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to all levels of the organization.
