Vice President Corporate Controller

We are performing a search for a VP Controller for a fast growing, mid sized defense contractor in the Northern VA area. Ideal candidate will have 15 plus years experience with defense contracting experience. This role will own the accounting function. Public Accounting and Costpoint experience a big plus. Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Accounting Operations

• Lead all accounting functions including GL, Revenue Accounting, Project Accounting, AR, AP, Payroll, Consolidation, and Financial Reporting
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
• Develop scalable accounting processes that support a rapidly growing organization.
• Partner closely with executive leadership, operational leaders, and private equity sponsors.

Technical Accounting & Revenue Recognition

• Serve as the Company's subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and complex accounting transactions.
• Lead technical accounting assessments and documentation for:
• ASC 606 Revenue Recognition
• Multiple-element arrangements
• Software and SaaS contracts
• Managed services agreements
• Project-based services contracts
• Variable consideration
• Contract modifications
• Business combinations and purchase accounting
• Review customer contracts and statements of work (SOWs) to ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Maintain accounting policies, technical accounting memos, and revenue recognition frameworks.

Project Accounting & Professional Services

• Oversee accounting for project-based and professional services engagements.
• Ensure integration between project delivery, time tracking, billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
• Drive improvements in:
• Project profitability reporting
• Utilization reporting
• Backlog reporting
• Revenue forecast accuracy
• Cost allocation methodologies
• Partner with operations leaders to establish strong financial controls around project execution.

Private Equity Environment

• Support PE sponsor reporting requirements and board reporting.
• Lead accounting due diligence and integration activities related to acquisitions.
• Partner with CFO on M&A integration, ERP harmonization, and accounting policy alignment.
• Manage audits, lender reporting, and compliance requirements associated with leveraged capital structures.

AI, Automation & Finance Transformation

• Champion the use of AI and intelligent automation across the accounting organization.
• Leverage AI technologies to identify anomalies, streamline workflows, and enhance financial reporting processes.
• Establish metrics and dashboards to monitor accounting performance and process efficiency.

Close Process & Operational Excellence

• Lead initiatives to achieve and maintain a world-class close process.
• Reduce monthly close cycle while improving accuracy and controls.
• Develop standardized operating procedures across acquired businesses and business units.
• Create a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Internal Controls, Audit & Compliance

• Maintain a strong internal control environment.
• Lead external audits and coordinate with auditors.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, regulatory, and lender requirements.
• Oversee documentation of accounting policies and control frameworks.

Team Leadership

• Build, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting organization.
• Manage both domestic and global accounting teams, including shared services and offshore resources as appropriate.
