Job Summary:
Assists pharmacists in providing medication and other health care products to patients. Serves as an interdepartmental liaison and pharmacy and patient advocate.
Job Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.
  • Assists pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication.
  • Compiles and transmits daily medication orders and prepares off-schedule orders.
  • Prepacks and maintains adequate supplies of prepackaged medications.
  • Addresses and reviews expired medication reports and removes expired products from active stocks.
  • Performs narcotic audit per policy.
  • Mixes and compounds oral and IV preparations as prescribed and labeled.
  • Researches appropriate dilution, reconstitution, and stability.
  • Orders, receives, and stocks incoming medication/supplies in the appropriate location.
  • Stocks, maintains and reconciles automated dispensing machines to ensure optimal medication availability and inventory control.
  • Maintains files and appropriate logs and documentation according to policies and procedures.
  • Sets up, monitors, and maintains drug waste disposal unit.
  • Fills, labels, packages, and delivers medications correctly.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement and quality management initiatives.
  • Participates in accreditation readiness and preparation.
  • Completes required annual education.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

TAHLEQUAH CAMPUS TECHNICIAN ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Completes inpatient training.
  • Completes extensive education in sterile compounding following USP cleanroom guidelines for IV, IM, subcutaneous and epidural preparation.
  • Performs biannual finger-tip and media fill testing.
  • Performs terminal cleanroom cleaning, appropriately garbs, aseptically stocks the sterile compounding cleanroom, and abides by policies and procedures to utilize sterile compounding hoods.
  • Sends and receives medications via the tube system, troubleshoots problems with automated dispensing cabinets, and contacts the appropriate servicing company to resolve issues.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Performs work under direct supervision.
  • Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • No additional experience required.

COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain throughout employment. Can be obtained during orientation.
  • Must obtain a Pharmacy Technician Permit within 60 days of employment as specified by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
