Overview

The employee provides skilled journeyman level work in the installation, replacement, alteration, adjustment, repair, and planned maintenance necessary to maintain reliable and functionally efficient operations of electrical lighting, generation, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), variable frequency drive (VFD), motor control center (MCC), power distribution, fire alarm systems, building automation, instrumentation and control systems, fixtures and equipment.


Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Three (3) years of related experience.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should know Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.  Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued Unlimited Journeyman Electrician’s License.  Must obtain CPR within 6 months of hire.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be knowledgeable of Occupational Safety and Health Administration codes and proficient in the use of tools common to the electrical trade.

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and taste or smell.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds. Special vision requirements for this position are color vision and peripheral vision.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), work near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather related), extreme heat (non-weather related), and the risk of electrical shock.  The employee may occasionally be exposed to work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of radiation, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Responsibilities:

Strong working knowledge of NFPA 25, 70, 99, and 110.  Provide budget requests to management.  Maintains the facility following DNV guidelines and Life Safety Codes.  Maintains fire alarm systems including but not limited to analog systems, addressable systems, pre-action systems, gaseous suppression systems, and dry systems.  Runs conduit, pulls wire, and installs circuits for electrically driven units. Maintains a large volume and wide variety of electric motors, generators, fans, sterilizers, lamps, and various medical and laboratory equipment.  Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.  Ensure federal, state, and local codes concerning health, safety, and the environment are strictly adhered to in the programming, design, and construction of real property facilities.  Interpret standards, codes, and policies and routinely apply them to develop project requirements, create designs, and/or review design submissions such as:

 

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and layouts.
  • Reading and interpreting “ladder” diagrams found in maintenance manuals.
  • Selecting proper materials and installing various electrical systems with methods meeting the National Electrical Code.
  • Preparing and submitting reports and records of activities as required.
  • Properly selecting overload protection for various single and three-phase wiring systems.
  • Laying out and installing convenience outlets, switch boxes, panel boards, and lighting systems for new construction or remodeling projects.

 

Demonstrates proficiency with main switchboard equipment, emergency transfer switches, and circuits, and appropriate work with 480 volts, 3-phase electrical distribution equipment, and systems.  Testing, calibration, inspection, and assisting in the installation and renovation activities for various fire protection systems.  Repair/restoration of building electrical systems including lighting and low-voltage distribution systems.  Monitoring, testing, and inspecting emergency power systems.  Regular on-call duties and responds to weekend, holiday, and after-hours emergencies.  Must be able to work in confined spaces, in areas of heat/cold extremes, in inclement weather, and assist in unrelated tasks when required.  Must be able to adapt to a changing environment.  Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligation for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.  Advanced understanding and maintain current understanding with all aspects of the National Electrical Code that apply to the facilities, maintain an advanced familiarity and understanding of all electrical equipment, installations, and systems within the facilities and be capable of operating and maintaining emergency generator/power systems.  Able to effectively use a computer, tablet, and other technology devices to conduct research on internal and external resources, utilize the department computerized maintenance management system, communicate via email and text messaging, receive and schedule calendar appointments, receive electronic training, additionally, receive and respond to alerts from multiple building and equipment management systems, etc. Advanced troubleshooting skills and experience.  Intermediate familiarity and understanding of plumbing fixtures and systems, heating and cooling equipment and systems, and general carpentry and painting.  Performs a variety of electrical work incidental to the maintenance of air conditioning, refrigeration, and other processes including kitchen equipment, ovens, cooking tops, ice machines, walk-in coolers, and walk-in freezers.  Able to work independently with minimal or no supervision. Accurately complete all required documentation including but not limited to the Infection Control Risk Assessment, Alternative Life Safety Measures, etc., for compliance with Cherokee Nation Health policies and procedures and other authorities having jurisdiction including but not limited Cherokee Nation Health Care Facilities Accreditation Program DNV, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Review DNV findings and identify missing or incorrect documentation and take appropriate corrective action. Review evidence books and documentation against Health Care Facilities Accreditation Program, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other applicable standards and take appropriate corrective action to ensure DNV reports meet current standards.  Must be familiar with testing and calibrating line isolation monitor systems for the surgery department.  Other duties may be assigned.
