Job Summary:

The role of the Child Advocate Support Specialist will work in conjunction with the Lead Child Advocate to establish programming that is age and developmentally appropriate for children who have witnessed domestic violence.   This position will evaluate the emotional supportive services for children in our housing, shelter and community programs. The Child Advocate Support Specialist will work with other direct service advocates to coordinate community outreach surrounding teen dating awareness, healthy relationships and youth-focused safety.  


Essential Job Functions:

The following is a summary of the essential functions of the job.  The employee may perform other duties, both essential and non-essential, not mentioned below; and specific responsibilities may change from time to time.


  • Conduct needs assessments & develop individualized and family plans accordingly.
  • Identify signs of emotional or developmental concerns in children and bring the problems to the attention of the Lead Advocate & Program Director.
  • Coordinate departmental resources for all requested childcare needs.
  • Cultivate relationships with organizations serving children and youth as possible outlets for enhancing  and expanding program services.
  • Protect confidentiality of client information and shelter location as per policies and Georgia statutes.
  • Identify needs of individuals and groups and seek resources for group facilitation/planning.
  • Ensure all supportive services are entered into data management system.
  • Understand impact of trauma (i.e. Adverse Childhood Experiences {ACEs}, etc.).
  • Integrate research-based strategies to build resiliency.
  • Provide awareness and understanding of domestic violence to all children served through individual and group services.
  • Pursue ongoing educational trainings that can improve services to residential children.
  • Participate in and assist with facilitation of group activities as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor in developing and implementing program goals.
  • Advocate for children’s needs with CFVC staff.
  • Attend all department and agency meetings as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:


  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations in a calm, deliberate manner.
  • Understanding of child development stages.
  • Familiarity with community resources and service providers.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of youth and their parents.
  • Self-motivated, high energy, and detail oriented.

 

 Education and Formal Training:

Master’s degree in social work, education, special education, or social services.

 

 Work Experience:


  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with children.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a variety of community and governmental organizations,  especially schools or youth-focused organizations.
  • Client-centered & empowerment-based.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends, based on program needs.
  • Minimum 21 years of age with a clean driving record & a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, & community partners.  

 

   

 

Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
