What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional - Media Center 2026-2027 position at Cherokee Elementary?
PARAPROFESSIONAL - CLASSROOM/MEDIA CENTER
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent, PLUS two years of college coursework (48 units), OR Associate Degree (or higher), OR pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction (Parapro, WorkKeys, OGET).
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB SUMMARY: The Teacher/Media Assistant will work directly with the media center specialist to enhance and organize each building media center program. Will type, file, keep records, answer the telephone, create bulletin boards, and make repairs on small equipment and books. Will substitute at lunch time for the building secretary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Type and process all library correspondence, orders, reports and forms.
- Assists in receiving and processing all new materials.
- Assists in keeping an updated computer catalog.
- Assists faculty and students in locating and checking out materials.
- Prepares notices for overdue books.
- Performs simple repairs on damaged materials and equipment.
- Ensures all magazines are shelved or maintained as needed.
- Shelves returned materials.
- Assists in annual inventory.
- Maintains current inventory of supplies and suggests items for acquisition as needed.
- Maintains inventory and repair records for AV equipment.
- Maintains and properly stores Audio Visual equipment.
- Assists with public relations projects, displays, bulletin boards, etc.
- Assists volunteers in job assignments as needed.
- Performs any other duties as directed by the Superintendent or her/his designee.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Regular classroom/school environment. Regular office environment, including frequent use of electronic email, being able to sit for long periods of time without a break, etc. Normal effort of occasional periods of moderate physical activity. Work is typically performed in an office environment with some travel to other campuses. Interruptions are expected to occur often. Must be able to adapt and respond quickly to constantly changing technology.
