STARTING SALARY: $42,974 for fully qualified
$39,732 for trainee

WORK DESCRIPTION: This job requires daily travel to structures that are in all phases of construction. Essential duties include technical work in listing and assessing buildings and/or land to accurately reflect true market value. Documenting field measurements, determining grade of materials/quality of workmanship and entering information into tax appraisal software are key elements for this position. Must use independent judgement and be a self-starter. Work may subject employee to inside and outside environments and hazards. Excellent people skills are required in dealing with taxpayers who may not agree with property assessments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other departments and the public are a must.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma or GED and education equivalent to one year of college. Must possess a valid driver’s license and must obtain certification by the State of North Carolina as a County Real Property Appraiser within 1 year of employment. Employee shall during the first year of employment and at least every other year thereafter attend a course of instruction in his/her area of work. At the end of the first year of their employment, employee shall also achieve a passing score on a comprehensive examination in property tax administration conducted by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
