JOB DESCRIPTION: Manufacturing Engineer I

Department: Engineering

Supervisor: Engineering Manager

Base Location: State College, PA

FLSA Status: Regular, Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt


Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer I supports manufacturing operations by documenting processes, maintaining work instructions, supporting routings and item planning data, assisting with labor and cost analysis, and helping improve consistency and efficiency on the production floor. This position works under the direction of the Engineering Manager and supports production, planning, purchasing, parts sales, and engineering as needed.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following; other duties may be assigned:

  • Document procedures, process qualifications, work instructions, routings, and related manufacturing information.
  • Support updates to Current Operations, Item Planning Codes, routings, and other ERP/manufacturing data.
  • Assist with labor cost and manufacturing data review.
  • Assist with parts, kits, and manufactured item cost analysis.
  • Support production floor process improvements focused on consistency, efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Aid in manufacturability reviews of parts and assemblies.
  • Assist with vendor, outsource supplier, and purchasing quote support.
  • Support planning and purchasing functions as a backup/resource when needed.
  • Assist with spare parts sales processes and quoting support.
  • Participate in safety, quality, Lean, root-cause, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support basic automation, reporting, and process tracking improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of Associate Degree in STEM, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or 5 years’ experience in Chemcut manufacturing processes.

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering drawings.

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Strong communication skills working in a team environment.

  • Ability to work with production, planning, purchasing, engineering, and parts sales.

  • Interest in automation, digital reporting, and process improvement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.

  • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to observe processes and determine needs.

To be considered for Manufacturing Engineer II, the employee should demonstrate:

  • Ability to independently maintain work instructions, routings, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Understanding of Chemcut manufacturing processes and production flow.

  • Ability to support planning and purchasing functions with limited supervision.

  • Ability to identify and complete small process improvement projects.

  • Improved ERP/MRP understanding and data accuracy.

  • Strong communication with production, planning, purchasing, and engineering.

  • Demonstrated ownership, urgency, and follow-through.
