Pharmacy Technician

Purpose: To provide the hospital with an adequately stocked, maintained, and organized pharmacy area. To provide accurate prescriptions based on doctors’ requests. To help increase inventory security.

Requirements: 1 years experience in a pharmacy setting. Basic pharmaceutical skills. A desire to be part of a dynamic veterinary healthcare team.

General Duties:

· Adhere to regulations as described in the CLAH Employee Handbook and uphold the Mission of CLAH with a team-oriented approach to creating a positive work environment

· Conduct all CLAH business in a client-centered manner

· Available to work assigned days – Monday through Sunday. Including holidays.

· Perform any additional duties as assigned by supervisor

· Maintain a pleasant and professional attitude

Pharmacy Duties, Under supervision of CLAH Veterinarians: 90%:

• Filling medications for:All hospitalized patients

All appointment patients
Requests by phone, email, fax, walk-in, online pharmacy requests
All surgical patients
Any doctor requests as needed
Compounded medication requests

• Fielding and routing prescription diet requests to appropriate purchase agent
• Calling in prescriptions to outside pharmacies
• Calling clients:When medications are ready

Questions regarding medication refills

• Reviewing all medications and instructions with clients upon pick up
• Assisting in inventory and stocking:Accurate counts of medications

Making sure pharmacy is adequately stocked
Alerting inventory manager of items needing ordered
Updating want/need list daily
Stocking all hospital inventory
Keeping the central warehouse adequately stocked
Filling in for inventory purchase agent when needed

• Assisting technicians and reception staff as needed
• Receiving incoming medication refill request calls
• Retrieving approval/decline from doctors for each refill request
• Contacting clients to schedule required appointments and/or bloodwork

· Helping promote CLAH's online pharmacy similar to other online pharmacies but with assurance of quality, veterinary support etc. to capture the majority of online prescription requests.

Facility Duties 5%

• General cleaning of all pharmacy areas
• Keeping pharmacy areas neat and organized
• Knowledge of where cleaning supplies are kept
• Knowledge how to properly mix all cleaning solutions

Client Communication 5%

• Assist and attend to the needs of the client
