TITLE: Communications Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Director of Communications and Public Affairs
LOCATION: Washington, DC and Partially Remote
POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Coordinator supports the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) marketing and communications efforts to amplify the organization’s mission and impact. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the role helps execute communications initiatives across digital, print, and event platforms by producing visual, written, and audio content, managing assets and deliverables for programs and events, and maintaining CHCI’s digital presence and brand consistency. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and collaborative team player who brings creativity to a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Support the implementation of CHCI’s integrated communications strategy to strengthen brand awareness and visibility across digital and print channels.
- Develop, edit, and help publish multimedia content (photos, videos, reels, podcast clips, etc.) for social media, the website, email campaigns, and other platforms in collaboration with internal teams.
- Help create event and campaign materials such as banners, booklets, social media graphics, and marketing collateral to promote CHCI events and programs and drive participation.
- Support CHCI’s storytelling and impact work by helping produce and distribute assets like annual reports, impact materials, and CHCI’s organizational podcast.
- Support event, sponsor, and media deliverables by tracking benefit fulfillment and timelines, coordinating communications assets, and assisting with the CHCI press inbox and media outreach.
- Help track communications metrics to measure marketing success.
- Assist with managing tools such as Mailchimp, Sprout Social, Flickr, SharePoint Folders, and project trackers.
- Provide administrative support by coordinating internal communications activities and team meetings and conducting research to support marketing initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- 1–3 years of experience in communications, digital media, or marketing (including internships and volunteer experience).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Experience creating visual and video content for social media and websites.
- Basic knowledge of photo and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, or similar).
- Proficiency with communications tools such as Canva, Mailchimp, and major social media platforms.
- Basic familiarity with podcast and audio production.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to brand consistency.
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Latino community, with a specific focus on first-generation college students and graduates and Generation Z.
- Commitment to CHCI’s mission and values.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, media, or a related field.
- Experience working with policy organizations and/or Capitol Hill.
- Spanish-language proficiency (written and spoken).
