Schedule: Monday–Friday | 40–45 hours/week (flexibility and occasional overtime as needed)

Position Summary
The Director of Dental provides clinical leadership and delivers high-quality preventive and primary dental care at Alluvion Health’s dental location and through our Mobile Dental Program. This role leads department performance across clinical quality, provider supervision, productivity, compliance, and continuous improvement while partnering with other departments to support integrated, patient-centered outcomes.
The Director of Dental is a champion for Quality Improvement and the Patient-Centered Medical Home model and ensures strong execution of QA/QI, emergency preparedness, and risk management/compliance programs. This leader sets the tone for a respectful, professional environment that supports teamwork, patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Provider Leadership
- Provide direct patient care, ensuring high-quality dentistry and efficient use of resources.
- Provide consultation and clinical guidance to dental providers and support staff.
- Document patient histories, treatment plans, and progress notes in the electronic dental record.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure HIPAA compliance.
- Collaborate with medical and behavioral health teams for consultation and referral coordination.
Department Operations, Quality, and Compliance
- Ensure smooth daily operation of dental services and achievement of productivity goals.
- Develop, implement, and monitor dental policies, procedures, protocols, and clinical standards.
- Lead QA/QI activities including chart audits, peer review, incident reports, and patient satisfaction feedback.
- Support initiatives tied to PCMH, Meaningful Use, and other performance/compliance programs.
- Maintain readiness for emergency preparedness, risk management, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, HIPAA/HITECH, HRSA, etc.).
- Monitor show rates and access utilization; implement strategies to reduce no-shows and improve community access.
Financial & Strategic Oversight
- Lead dental budget development, financial planning, and resource allocation.
- Monitor revenue, expenses, and applicable funding sources; support sustainability and program growth.
- Partner with leadership on strategic priorities, operational improvements, and long-term planning.
People Leadership & Workforce Management
- Supervise recruiting, onboarding, training, competencies, scheduling, time/attendance, and performance management.
- Provide leadership in conflict resolution, coaching, motivation, and accountability to support service excellence.
- Ensure personnel actions comply with federal/state guidelines and internal policies (EEO, ADA, AAP, etc.).
- Promote a professional, respectful culture that supports teamwork and high performance.
Organizational Leadership
- Serve on the Alluvion Health Leadership Team and participate on committees and project teams as needed.
- Support HRSA 330 compliance and reporting requirements (UDS, audits, renewals, FFR, and other submissions).
- Stay current on program and regulatory changes relevant to FQHC dental operations, PCMH, and quality initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Graduate from an accredited Dental School (required)
- Three (3) years of dental practice management experience (required)
- Five (5) years of dental experience (preferred)
Licenses/Certifications (Required)
- Licensed and registered to practice Dentistry in the State of Montana
- Current DEA
- Valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Montana
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong clinical knowledge of modern dentistry and oral surgery principles.
- Proven leadership ability and experience building accountable, respectful teams.
- Familiarity with EHR systems, HIPAA/HITECH, and health information technology.
- Knowledge of Medicaid/Medicare billing practices and safety/OSHA standards.
- Excellent communication, organization, time management, and policy development skills.
- Ability to adapt to change, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of FQHC requirements, quality programs, and compliance expectations (preferred).
Computer Skills
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and the ability to learn and operate Alluvion Health applications and EHR systems.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and hand/finger use for clinical care and computer work.
- Occasional lifting/moving up to 40 lbs (equipment/supplies).
- Vision and focus requirements for monitors and clinical procedures.
- Mobility required for travel to clinic sites and mobile program operations.
- OSHA Exposure Category #1: Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues.
