Chautauqua County Government – Department of Public Facilities

Status: Full-Time
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Engineer II. This position involves the application of professional engineering skills and knowledge to civil engineering projects related to the design, construction, inspection, operation, and maintenance of public works.
Assignments are received with general direction; however, the incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in developing solutions. This position may supervise technical staff and is performed under the general oversight of professional supervisors, with performance reviewed during progress and upon completion.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Plans and designs highways in accordance with modern engineering practices; prepares layouts and cost estimates for road improvements
- Investigates and designs bridge projects, including site evaluation, cost estimation, and preparation of specifications
- Serves as resident project engineer for construction projects, including bridges, roads, sewer systems, and landfill operations
- Oversees inspection activities, including concrete placement, structural components, and compliance with project specifications
- Plans, designs, and reviews engineering projects for highways, buildings, bridges, and sewage/industrial systems to ensure compliance with County, State, and Federal standards
- Supervises technical, maintenance, and clerical staff as assigned
- Assists in preparing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and monitors consultant and contractor performance
- Prepares bid documents, cost estimates, and secures necessary permits
- Represents the department at meetings and conducts special studies and investigations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of one of the following credentials issued at the time of application and throughout employment:
- Intern Engineer Certificate (E.I.T.), OR
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment
- This position is filled on a provisional basis pending the results of a future Civil Service examination
Pay: $32.79 - $43.26 per hour
