NATURE OF WORK
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to developstudents' understanding, appreciation of the art of music, including listening toa wide range of musical genre, periods and styles. To identify, promote and develop eachstudent's talents in vocal and instrumental musical expression.
MINIMUM TRAINING ANDEXPERIENCE
Requiredto hold state certification in Music (licensecode 800) and designated as "highly qualified."
PERFORMANCERESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and administers music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate.
- Plans, coordinates rehearsals for, and directs students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to ensure a productive learning atmosphere during practice, rehearsal and performances.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate music supplies and instrumental equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order.
MINIMUM STANDARDSREQUIRED TO PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIES
Physical Requirements: Must be physicallyable to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers,calculators, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must beable to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amountof force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects,including the human body. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to asignificant degree.
Data Conception: Requires the abilityto compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural orcomposite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards)of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the abilityto speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includesgiving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.
Language Ability: Requires the abilityto read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, strategic plans, etc.Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations,budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules ofpunctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak beforegroups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Intelligence: Requires the abilityto apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems,collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the abilityto record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral andwritten instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficientlyin standard English.
NumericalAptitude: Requiresthe ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply anddivide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles ofalgebra, descriptive statistics and statistical inference.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the abilityto inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the abilitycoordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the abilityto handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must haveminimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Does not require theability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the abilityto deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptableto performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
PhysicalCommunication: Requiresthe ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by meansof spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able tocommunicate via telephone.
