Main Duties
- Perform linguistic analyses on large datasets.
- Analyze AI model outputs for linguistic errors and categorize them.
- Develop and revise guidelines for annotation and AI projects.
- Conduct linguistic research on language similarities and differences.
- Analyze language for Responsible AI issues (bias, toxicity) in multilingual contexts.
- Review and summarize linguistic literature relevant to NLP.
- Compare vendor quality and provide feedback on error patterns.
- Provide linguistic expertise and guidance.
- Collaborate with native speakers.
- Communicate findings to engineers and scientists.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills (business and research).
- Native speaker of a non-English language (preferably Hindi) with high proficiency in an Indo-Aryan or South Dravidian language, and broad knowledge of other languages in these groups.
- Working knowledge in other languages is a plus.
- Proficiency in a low-resource language is valued.
- Python coding required; SQL querying required. Other data analysis languages are a plus.
- Ability to work independently on complex requests under pressure.
- Strong prioritization, planning, tracking, and reporting skills.
- Project management basics is a plus.
- Self-motivation required.
- Working knowledge of international language-classification standards is valued.
- Graduate degree in Linguistics or related field required; PhD is a plus.
- Specialization in corpus linguistics is a plus.
- Fieldwork experience is a plus.
- Literature or English degrees are not appropriate substitutions.
- Computer Science with NLP specialization is not an appropriate substitution.
- Strong knowledge of language typology, syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics (dialectology, discourse analysis), corpus linguistics, writing systems, pragmatics, phonology is required.
- Experience with basic Natural Language Processing techniques required.
- 0-3 years of experience.
- Experience working cross-functionally.
- Experience collaborating with ML, NLP, software engineers, or data scientists.
- Experience contributing to research papers.
- Preferably no known conflicts of interest in machine translation, ASR, TTS, or LLM research.
