JOB SUMMARY: 

The Director, Pediatrics is responsible for constantly improving the quality and operational efficiencies of pediatric care across Chase Brexton sites. This includes providing clinical guidance and contributing to interdisciplinary endeavors with nursing teams, population health staff, and information technology teams.

The Director, Pediatrics will be a resource for all Chase Brexton providers to deliver evidence-based, culturally sensitive care for children and adolescents. Further, that individual will provide direct supervision to staff pediatricians. 

As a member of Chase Brexton’s medical leadership team, the Director, Pediatrics will assist the Chief Medical Officer in developing and implementing pediatric care protocols to promote clinical excellence, productivity, and equity. The Director, Pediatrics will demonstrate a keen understanding of the national and local landscape of child health, serving as a clinical liaison to pertinent regulatory agencies, accreditation bodies, and professional associations. The Director, Pediatrics will work with Population Health teams to interpret health statistics and other data regarding children cared for by Chase Brexton. The Director, Pediatrics will support the recruitment and professional development of pediatric care providers.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

• Works collaboratively with the Site Medical Directors, Directors of Operations and Director of Nursing to ensure highest clinical quality, smooth patient flow, optimized patient access and cost-effective utilization as well as financial sustainability

• Provides direction to the organization with respect to Pediatric issues.

• Functions as CBHC’ primary clinical consultant in Pediatrics.

• Keeps CBHC clinical staff aware of updates to Pediatric guidelines and new research findings through regular presentations at staff meetings.

• Represents CBHS to the medical and patient communities, as well as the community at-large, as an expert in Pediatrics. Hold discussions with community stakeholders and school districts working to promote child health and well-being.

• Develops and maintains connections with local pediatric care organizations (University of Maryland Medical System, Johns Hopkins University, etc), including residency programs.

• Collaborates with HR to recruit and retain child health providers, building their professional development and cultural competence.

• Collaborate with Population Health in organizing and interpreting health statistics and data to improve child health care delivery and build equity.

• Participates in internal planning processes to expand health care services and operations.

• Promotes integration of pediatric clinical services with other Chase Brexton disciplines, including behavioral health and dental.

• Leads the monthly pediatrics meetings

• Works closely with grand department on grants applications and execution once awarded.


Performance Management

• Provides direct medical direction and oversight to the pediatricians and guides all providers caring for children and adolescents.

• Assists in the supervision of clinicians caring for children and adolescents (NP, PA, physician) including doing chart audits 

• Performs peer review audits regularly


Resource, Staff, and Budgets

• Works with the Chief Medical Officer on interviewing, on-boarding, and orientation of new pediatric providers

• Effectively hires and manages team members while coaching for development opportunities.


Compliance, Policy, and Procedures

• Works with the Medical Directors, Director of Operations and Director of Nursing in continuous readiness and implementation of Joint Commission standards

• Participates in important organizational initiatives including but not limited to PCMH and Meaningful Use

• Is responsible for initiation and completion of clinical quality improvement activities, including counseling clinicians about performance and compliance issues.  This also includes completion of at least one documented PDSA cycle per year that strives to improve clinical care or operations at the assigned office site

• Shows meaningful progress toward quality improvement goals

• Knowledge of all clinical regulations and requirements for participation in programs.

• Provides appropriate certification, licensing, and credentialing with various funding sources.

• Knowledge of clinical operations including workflow and scheduling.


Communication

• Participates in internal committees and teams as requested

• Serves as liaison between the pediatricians and other staff

• Attends Extended Operations Council meetings

• Liaison to, or member of, organizational committees as appropriate.

• Liaison to other internal Chase Brexton departments.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Using quality, operational, and financial data provided, provides clinical, operational, and financial oversight to the pediatric program, in conjunction with the Medical Directors and Directors of Operations.

• Ability to work with a multidisciplinary leadership and clinical team

• Skill in interacting with various levels of health care leadership both within and outside of the organization.

• Computer skills including Microsoft office suite, electronic medical records and practice management system


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Required: MD or DO with successful completion of an accredited residency program and current Board Certification

• Experienced pediatrician with at least 3 years (5 preferred) of clinical experience and demonstrated leadership skills and potential.

• Appropriate Maryland licensure and clinical certification

• Interest in and/or experience in community health settings

• Experience working in a diverse environment 

• Excellent communication and team skills required.
