Job Description:

As the Director of Operations, you will oversee five locations in the metro Detroit area for Chas. Verheyden, Inc., a family-owned funeral care company. This leadership role requires exceptional strategic oversight, team development, customer service excellence, and operational integrity. You will report directly to the Owner and Officers while working collaboratively with departmental managers to ensure seamless service and sustained growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all operational functions including service delivery, staff management, facility maintenance, and financial performance.
• Maintain and promote the company’s mission: “The Same Always to All.”
• Uphold standards for customer service across all departments; implement feedback loops and proactive improvements.
• Support departmental managers in talent recruitment, training, evaluation, and development.
• Drive performance reviews and continuous coaching to foster team growth and operational excellence.
• Oversee execution of company policies with integrity, fairness, and consistency.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Lead innovation in service offerings and consumer engagement strategies.
• Promote a workplace culture rooted in dignity, respect, collaboration, and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in funeral service or a related executive-level position.
• Strong computer proficiency and comfort with presentations and reporting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; motivational leadership style.
• Willingness to work flexible hours to ensure adherence to company standards.
• Ability to travel between locations and represent the brand in the community.
