POSITION SUMMARY: The IR Coordinator is involved in the day-to-day flow of the Interventional Radiology clinic. They are a key part of the daily operations ensuring that patients are scheduled and taken care of in a timely manner, and that the proper insurance authorizations for scan and procedures are in place prior to ordering. The IR Coordinators act as the liaison between patient, insurance carrier and provider team (internal and external).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Coordinate patients’ appointments to include consultations, imaging and Interventional Radiology procedures with the appropriate provider
- Understand and explain clinical details of procedures and scans to patients and their families
- Process new patient referrals, ensuring appropriate documentation and imaging is available prior to appointment, ordering if needed
- Maintain databases to assist with tracking of pertinent clinical related data
- Maintain effective communication with provider teams (internal and external) to ensure that highest patient care is given
- Work with insurance carriers to obtain insurance authorizations for all imaging exams and procedures ordered by IR physicians
Education/Licensing/Certification:
- High School Education
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 1-3 years’ experience
- Radiology experience, medical office experience preferred
- Clinical details of procedures performed within Interventional Radiology
- Computer literate and various computer applications required for pulling medical records and scheduling patient appointments
- Knowledge of medical terminology and radiology procedures
- Knowledge of insurance processes
- Charlotte Radiology policies, procedures, and guidelines, along with some Atrium policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent organization skills, and multi-tasking
- Ability to develop and maintain a good working relationship with providers, peers and patients
- Ability to compile, analyze and accurately report data
